Yep , thats true. Spain was unreal in that span. But they also had luck in their side. For example , when they won portugal in the world cup.Penaltys.

What is new is that both the "good" teams and the "crap" teams have moved towards the mean and the difference is not that great anymore.

We'll soon have even the San Marinos, Maltas, Andorras and Turkeys playing on a near level footing with the Germany, Spain and Englands.

I think we'll have an African winner of the world cup within the next 10 or 20 years.
I remember when the Dolphins were perennial contenders

Penaltys Was in the semi finals in EURO 2012, not World Cup.

In the World Cup 2010 was 1-0 for them. (Spain)

that's not new either. turkey finished 3rd twice in major tournaments since the last time england sniffed semi finals in anything. ditto for croatia, south korea, russia and greece. there are always teams like spain, germany, italy, portugal, france, netherlands that consistently find themselves in last four, there are occasional aforementioned party crashers, and there are always chronic chokers like england.

Yessir! Don't post much on soccer as I only follow every two years on Euro and World Cup. Wish I had followed closer on Ronaldo's career though, guy is damn near the GOAT but I find all these different leagues too confusing lol.

Cheers brotha!

Portugal couldn't win a game until the semi-finals and won the tournament after three draws in the group stages. :lol:

Also pretty fitting for this tournament that a team that didn't want to play football wins it. I mean, they even played defensively against Wales

BTW: Did they drive in Ronaldo or was he able to walk on his own? :P

Everytime someone says "that's anti-football" or "they don't play to win" the only thing I hear is "they played an amazing defensive game and made us work really hard to even try to score a goal".

Honestly, nothing anyone has said about us could really bother me right now, but I just had to say this.

If not wanting to play football allows my national team win an European Championship, the 1st major title in my county's history, that just imagine what we'll be able to do once we want to play football.

Portugal won! I'm really happy :D

Patrício was the best goalkeeper in the tournament. I'm glad for him. I still remember when he 1st started playing for Sporting Clube de Portugal and he saved a penalty in his debut, holding on a 1-0 win. He was only 18 and in his bad moments only a few believed him. And I always did. Couldn't be more proud. Thank you Paulo Bento for insisting on him!

Pepe was fantastic all the way. Probably our best player in the tournament.

Raphael proved he's a fantastic left back.

William, Adrien, Renato and João Mário were fantastic for us. Tremendous defensive efforts from all the midfielders.

Nani and Ronaldo provided almost all the goals we scored, and despite some inconsistency both had a very good tournament and were extremely important:
- Nani scored the goal against Iceland;
- Nani scored the 1st goal vs Hungary assisted by Ronaldo, who scored the other two;
- Both Nani and Ronaldo are involved in the play that would eventually end up with Quaresma scoring against Croatia:
- Ronaldo scored the 1st against Wales and then had the shot in the 2nd one, that Nani would put trough the net.

I'm also happy for Eder, who was seen here in Portugal as a national joke but he's now a national hero!

This was not our best team, not our best tournament and definitely not the most attractive we've played. But we won, and we deserve it. Since 96 we've been into the quarter finals and I felt we could have won it all in 00, 04 and 12.

We did it! PORTUGAL ALLEZ PORTUGAL ALLEZ :D

Congrats to Portugal and any Portuguese posters here, you guys deserved this trophy, especially after the 2004 Euro final. I'm so happy for Pepe and Ronaldo, seeing them lift this trophy was a great feeling.
