For careers, it's definitely Cristiano Ronaldo. Better health, longevity, totals, club achievements. Nothing similar to WC '98 Final, too.
For peak? It's much closer. I don't think R9 ever reached his MAXIMUM potential between 1997-04, let alone later seasons; but couple of times he was arguably on Cristiano's level or even better. One must remember that at the time he played in Internazionale, Serie A was decidedly the strongest league in the world, imho stronger than todays La Liga... and he shattered it with almost a goal per game, while he was healthy. His lone Barcelona season was also unbelievable.
