Ronaldo was amazing, but I would say that Gerd Muller and Pele were probably better. Without Ronaldo's persistent injuries though, who knows what else he might've achieved, the sky was the limit, he could've been the greatest of all time. Aguero's in a similar situation (to a lesser extent), an amazing player who's being limited by his recurring injury problems.

I really dont buy gerd muller or pele or maradona opinions. I mean football was way different than it is at that time. I remember watching some of maradona's goals where he has no difficulty of scoring due to defense lapses and mistakes through marking or zonal marking etc. I think fat Ronaldo era was much harder and technology got into football much more therefore defenses were better and scoring goals were much harder than 1960s or 1980s.

Being said that we are incredibly lucky to watch CR7 and Messi. I think none of those players that you mentioned could have achieved what these players have been doing in today's football.

He was the most incredible player I've seen in my lifetime. Such a joie de vivre about him too, he loved the sport, his teammates and respected his opponents. So odd when compared to players like Cristiano who pout like petulant children when they don't get their shine.

Medicine and tactics evolved on both sides; as Gerd would also have benefitted a lot from modern medicine and training; so I don't like punishing legends for playing in earlier eras...at least if I've seen enough of their games to rate them. Like Yashin and Andrade, I have no clue how to rate them cause I've never watched either of them play. I've heard and read about how much better than any other GK Yashin was and what game changing creative force Andrade managed to be from the 6; but not having seen it, I can't really contextualize that and understand it.

Gerd really was something else though. The way he moved off of the ball utterly outclassed any active player; and his goals have caused people to forget how much skill he displayed when he'd drift out to the wings in the west-german version of total football that was the foundation for that golden generation. Fat Ronaldo was even more incredible when fit cause his pace was on another level from Gerds and his dribbling was as well. But in terms of movement; both in- and out-side of the box; and finishing Gerd had things to teach Phenomeno.

Gerd Muller is of course a legend , but i think the way Fenomeno moved with ball and the speed of his skills WITH the ball was just amazing. I don't think any European player can math with the skills of those from south america: Ronaldo, ronaldinho, messi, robinho. Their movement and skills are way better.
