Problem here , Croatia doesn't have the Netherlands weapons to mount a comeback

What a joke that penalty was.

You can argue Alvarez collided on to the keeper. The keeper had the right to be there.

There's a sense that for whatever reason they want to give the WC to Argentina, so this is becoming a clown show to watch.

That's not how it works. In both cases, the keeper had zero claim to the ball whereas the attacker was in control and has just played the ball. The penalty was clear, as was the call.

Oh, the keeper is supposed to vanish into thin air?

If I have the ball and face you up, it's up to me to go around you. It's not up to you to get out of the way, so I can just go in a straight line.

If you commit, like the keeper did here, you better make sure you play the ball. He missed everything and took the attacker out. This isn't even debatable. It's absolutely up to you to get out of the way of a player if you are out of control and aren't playing the ball.

Yep. Maybe if they had a Mandzukic, I'd be a believer.

Scoring against Brazil was a tough task. Not sure how they can get 2 here.

It was not a penalty; experts agree

I don't like that penalty call but it's a clear spot kick, with the ball already gone, contact afterwards shouldn't constitute a foul, but I'm watching on my phone at work so maybe my angle isn't the clearest. (Just saw it again during the halftime show, I'm sticking by my initial thoughts)

But man, what a run on that second goal, almost like he was playing pinball and tilting the ball to bounce where he wanted it to go

I don't get what the keeper was expected to do? Just sit back and wait for the shot??

He made a play on the ball that the attacking player didn't have 100% possession of.

Just some hopium... But the Croatian coach told his team to take it slow and calm down. So he wasn't in a rush to try and sneak in a goal before the half.

Maybe he knows something nobody else does lol

Australia snuck one in and had a chance to equalize. We all still remember the Netherlands game.

And even the Saudis were able to come back from a 1-0

Impossible is nothing....

The difference here is that Argentina finally looks like they found their stride. They look organized. And they are really playing with a lot of swagger. They actually look like Argentina.

It was a bit of a soft penalty, Alvarez tried to chip the keeper. Tried to run around the keeper after realising he didn’t connect properly with the ball and by then the keeper is in a position where he can’t stop Alvarez from running in to him.

Peter Walton on ITV is obviously defending another ref but I think it was a pretty soft penalty for me.

the 2nd goal was pure luck (2 favorable bounces) but luck favors the brave so hats off to Argentina forward for making the run

Croatia are the comeback kids #Believe

Maybe they can get an early goal than a controversial call to help them

Whoever thinks that is a penalty, then must also think that the second goal should be disallowed or be another penalty... since there was another collision.

I think he was tellng them to calm down because they were noticeably in shock being down 2-0 from out of nowhere. They were missing easy passes and almost conceded again.

That’s about how I feel. It’s a letter-of-the-law call that you can definitely justify but would feel pretty hard done if your team got called for it. Argentina is attacking the game and have definitely been better. But that call really changes the game. It wasn’t a completely botched call, at least.

Surely, Croatia has a Burnley / Beşiktaş caliber player on the bench?

Weghorst was also 6 foot 6 haha

I can't stand Peter Walton. He's a proper jobsworth who almost always takes the referee's side.

It's like when FIFA investigated FIFA for corruption.
