Has more to do with the football played than the "hosting". You could have done this in Antarctica and it still would have been great. Glad Qatar is done now.

did not know you were such a loser; did Qatar steal your cow?

The greatest final ever, but not the best world cup ever. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I wonder how many World Cups that guy has seen. Those who declare it the best ever seem to have other reasons for it.

You might -- might -- be on to something.

yea, I'm sure both you don't have an agenda otherwise to say it's not.

still waiting for both of you to admit how hilariously and embarrasingly wrong you both were on Grant Wahl's death, and how both of you disgustingly politicized it before his body was even cold.

if anything this 200 billion dollar sportswashing backfired a bit, normally human rights abuses in qatar would barely be a blip in world media but it was the number one topic for the past month.

How does saying Qatar was not a great host make me a loser? One of the most, if not the most corruption/blood stained tournaments this already-dirty organization has seen and this is the greatest host ever? Football was great I won't deny

Welp, that was something. One of my favorite things in sports is watching all-time greats cement their legacy. Not that Messi's place in history wasn't already very much secured. But that was the ultimate icing on a cake that was already pretty amazing.

Qatar has been an impeccable host and by almost every metric one of the best WCs ever

but it's comical seeing Westerners responsible for the most blood and destruction the last century continue to clutch their pearls behind their MacBook Pros and iPhone 14s about developing countries finally getting a chance to show what they can do.

no one wants to hear it, take your L with you when you leave.

Oh **** off. I didn't politicize Grant Wahl's death at all. You can check viewtopic.php?f=266&t=2245015&start=1880 and the Grant Wahl thread.

Hopefully this was the last time a tiny country with no football history buys off enough FIFA people to get a World Cup.

I don't care about their laws and way of living. I just have an issue with buying a World Cup and blowing a gazillion dollars to whitewash whatever they're ashamed of (again, I don't care what they believe in), but I know why they blow money hosting the sports events.

I had an issue with how much money was burned on hosting this... since they're so small and have no sports history to speak of, so I imagine the stadiums or most of them will have little use.

Their team was embarrassing as well. And some games had empty seats because it's such a small country and expensive to travel to, so it didn't have the same atmosphere as some other big competitions.

Qatar will be forgotten. No one really cares about the country. People care about the competition. which had some good games and drama.

We're on to European Championships 2024 in Germany and then 2026 WC in the US/Mexico/Canada. Just typing those countries... you immediately feel like those are proper countries to host competitions in. Germany being an historical powerhouse, Mexico being mad about football and Canada/USA being huge markets that are still developing. That's the way.

Was a great tournament DESPITE being hosted in Qatar, not because of it.

Nobody seriously believes the host location had anything to do with the way the matches unfolded, how dramatic they were.

Wow you sound like a clueless iPhone-using Westerner who's forgotten all the crimes Germany committed 80 years ago. Anyways, hope the next Euro and WC have as many great storylines as this one. Shame some of the all time greats won't be in them.
