But they say Southgate has no excuses, with all these stars on the team.

Certainly all the PL stars on the team probably have bigger salaries and transfer values than the players on the Spanish team.

But how predictive is PL success to international football? The Golden Generation of Gerrard and Lampard didn't win the Euro or the WC. In fact did they even get to the final of either tournament like this generation has reached the Final both at Wembley and Berlin in this tournament?

Plus, the reason why a club like City has been so great is that two of their best players are Rodri and KDB, who are not English.

The English media are tough.

Never heard anyone call Lampard, Gerrard a "golden generation", personally I never thought that generation would win anything. I don't think they were even top 3 favorites at any tournament. This generation is better at the top but also has great depth in almost every position except for center back.

İ don't think Southgate criticism is about winning either, if they had resembled a 1.3 billion dollar team first few games but lost in well fought semi finals, he would get less criticism.

I definitely heard people calling that the "golden generation". I think they were a complete team except for GK. They had elite players at all positions, but they didn't have a candidate for the best player In the world.
Michael Owen won ballon d'or but I don't think anyone considered him as a top 3 player in the world.

This team has a big hole at centre back and left back I would say, but Jude Bellingham is for some the best player in the world, and maybe Phil Foden too. That shows imo how much better is the quality in this generation. They already achieved more than any English team since 66 and I think it's inevitable that they will win at least 1.

I can understand expecting a lot from talented players in who dominate in PL, CL but the media is crazy for expecting championship in every WC, Euro. Crazy pressure because as you said great generation with Gerrard and co didnt win either.

Brazil is the only team who has to win every turn with all their World Cups.

If they sign Potter it will be a mistake. I don't know if Eddie Howe will leave Newcastle or not. Technically he is allowed to do both, but it is very unusual
