Just for seeding purposes for next season for Villa, I need Roma to win this shootout now

Mourinho's record is over. Honestly, they don't deserve it, this Roma team is awful. Imagine having your defenders take the penalty kicks...

Not that Sevilla are much better. Still, 7/7 is absolutely insane. Congrats to Sevilla.

Since 2001 Spanish club teams have not lost a final against non-Spanish club teams. They’ve won 18 out of 18 matches, Spanish club just dominate everyone in finals. Its crazy!

Anthony Taylor is not a good referee. No control whatsoever.

The match itself was prime Mourinhoball. Fantastic to see him lose.

At least one Joao Felix participated in a cup final this year. But honestly this UEL win is surprising given how badly Sevilla did in la liga. Spain continues to be underrated, Italy overrated. Good luck to Inter in aspiring to be the first continentally formidable Italian team in 12 years.

Italian teams in every European final. The best team in Spain embarrassed in the Champions League and Europa League. That's the nature of knockout competitions.

Plus Sevilla has been fine in La Liga since Mendilibar took over.

Yeah but Italian team in CL final was down to being lucky in the r8 draw. Neither would have made it this deep if they faced any of the 4 favorites. It is the nature of this comp - the semifinals usually contain the real final.

Exactly - knockout competitions are like US playoffs. Some people confuse it with being competitive. Competitive is a league where 2 perennial champion's league teams don't even make it to european football

Agreed but what Roma fans did to him and his family at the airport was an abomination :noway:

By the EPL fans who dominate this sub and global football fandom. Look to Danfantastik's recent Liverpool diatribes (which must have taken hours to write up) for a perfect example. He was asserting la liga was a poor watch after watching some of the games Liverpool put out in the last 2 seasons. Orbthe predominant claims that Arsenal or Utd would win the UEL this season after Frankfurt won it last year.

I agree completely and it's on Mourinho.
He's a menace, but mostly gets away with it, because often it's comes across as 'funny'.

It's bull**** and it's time he gets some kind of punishment for all his antics.

It's unfortunate that Mourinho took that FC Porto way of handling the referees with him throughout his career, in which they've become institutionally accustomed to grooming referees early in their careers with prostitutes and money (to which their octogenarian president Pinto da Costa, famously refers to as "fruit" and "candy", respectively). The club essentially owns the soul of nearly every referee that comes from the regional Porto FA (more or less 1/3 of all domestic refs, if not more), and they bully and intimidate the remaining referees by deploying the Super Dragons fan group as the club president's personal army of street ruffians.

It's this grotesque FC Porto mentality that the referees exist to do their bidding. Mourinho is a brilliant coach but he never took that FC Porto bitchcakes out of him.

The complaints that Roma had are the same that Juve had. An obvious penalty not called [juve’s was more clear cut than the handball Taylor didn’t call] and yellow cards being handed out easily for Juve/Roma while multiple Sevilla players escaped bookings. End of the day, though, Sevilla are out rounds ago if macguire was competent. And they only win the final because Mancini is an own-goal scoring machine as well. As much as I’d love to cry conspiracy, I cannot.

As for the serie A vs other leagues, we are far enough behind epl and la liga that I don’t even need to waste time supporting this argument.

A step in the right direction for the league—more so than having great results in all three European competitions—will be if Milan, Inter, and Napoli are really able to hold on to their superstar players this summer: Osimhen/Kvara/Kim, Leao/Maignan, and Bastoni/Barella/Lautaro/Onana.
I should probably add Lazio to the mix now that they’re champions league bound. They have no depth so they’ll need a few additions, especially on defense, to add to a decent lineup which includes Milinkovic-Savic, Luis Alberto, Zaccagni, and Immobile.

It's remarkable progress for Roma regardless of outcome. They were a whole tier down last season. It is a pity how bad the standard for human+VAR refereeing standards are across Europe currently though. Despite the on field deep runs by the Italians I worry with how stupid the league is governing itself. it just overturned the points deficit for Juve, the stakes for rank 2-6 were uncertain till a few weeks ago, and all the clubs aside from Juve are still poor and the clubs haven't apparently pursued ways to fundraise. There is probably short term opportunity in the likely chaos of next season in that some of the Italian league favorites will have to bet on the Cl while sacrificing the league. I'm pretty skeptical the teams will be able to renew those star players but it seems like those players themselves are aware of the perfect development circumstances they are in presently.

West Ham has and should've won this game.
They spend the third most money in the Prem, whoch is insane by itself.
