I also love the "we know everyone does worse things on a football match, but who cares, i only want Suárez head for the worst penalty possible!"

Seriously, the inconsistent ones are you pro-ban. Suárez should receive his punishment, but banning him doesn't punish him at a personal level at all. It punishes the WC and that's as clear as a cup of water.

Inconsistent? All we've said that he deserves to suffer for the consequences of his actions, whereas you're the one that goes around saying he shouldn't be banned because "of the Uruguayan people and the fans of this WC" and all this nonsense about "affecting him at a personal level". Now you're saying he should be banned.

Honestly, who cares about him on a personal level, he makes millions of pounds a year to play football and in his mind he thought 3 times it was a good decision to bite someone. We as a society should not be sympathetic to this type of behaviour and he's quite clearly not willing to reform. He's been given enough chance to reform and he's rejected all of them. He's already been punished twice for similar incidents and he hasn't learned, maybe the only time he'll ever learn is if he's kept off the pitch altogether, maybe that 2 year ban seems more reasonable then.

It does punish the WC in terms of quality, and it does punish the Uruguayan team but he should've known that as he is a professional athlete and this is the third time he's done it, he knows what he did and should be punished accordingly.

Feel really sorry for him but he was always going to be the obvious scapegoat, this is probably the most mature thing he's ever done. Maybe he has turned the corner, hope Arsene goes for him (not willing to gamble on him just yet)

Anyway, I'm curious whether the outrage in england gets Woy fired. He's not the only problem but he's certainly a big part of it and a perfect symbol for the type of archaic thinking that's trapped england in this endless limbo that only time-travel seems capable of correcting.

Everybody here is behind Roy, even the head of FA. So it's safe to say he won't be going anytime soon. I think it's more because of a lack of options out there than Roy being good going forward.

Yeah that's part of problem, other than Brendan Rodgers there's no young british manager who could give the team what they need, but Woy still clearly won't get the job done, even if it's another guy who's lacking you need to make a change and take a chance. I know a lot of english folks view us as rivals but I've always wanted to see that country get its **** together, and following the tried and true will only lead to more failure.

But again there's the problem, there's no one out there who's worth gambling for, maybe Rodgers but he ain't leaving Liverpool. If they're going to go for the British route only Tim Sherwood and Arry would be available, and either one of them is just vomit inducing (plus we won't see the annual Arry at transfer window antics). Plus, I think the FA are also still a but afraid to go after a foreign coach after the Cappello debacle.

That's the thing too, we try to claim that we're a very good team with round of 16 the minimum when (especially in recent years) we've can't even get our crap together when a tournament comes. 2008, couldn't even qualify. 2010, scraped past the group and destroyed by Germany. 2012, Cappello resigns months before Euros due to Terry incident.

This is probably the first year where we've actually had no problems during the lead up to the WC, which is part of the reason I wouldn't mind Woy staying. Seems to have the trust of everybody top to bottom.
Personally, I want Gary Neville to manage England (mainly for the lols). But he's got a very cushy job at Sky Sports so he won't be leaving that anytime soon.

...Joey Barton...and if the FA refuse to do it, I'm going to start working on the script for the movie.

I also don't see why the English are so fixed to a 4-4-2ish system. England doesn't have the wingers right now to play that way, what england does have is central guys and a 4-3-1-2 that United should've been playing all year would cater to that. Pair Sturridge and Rooney up top, go with Wilshere, Gerard and Henderson or Milner/Lallana in a midfield trio with Sterling, Ox or Barkley as the ten, although dropping Rooney back to that spot and playing Welbeck or using Lallana as the ten would work to. Might be able to build some actual attacking movements then and win the midfield battle.

Dont worry about the fact they built the team around a 52 year-old and played with the pace of the Port Macquarie Lawn Bowls club senior mens team (thats a team of very old men FYI)

Eh the injury to Montolivo meant we had to rely more on Pirlo. No De Rossi meant our defense was easier to expose. The great thing about Prandelli is he doesn't rely on the older players and isn't afraid to bring youth into the team, as could be seen with Verratti. Unfortunately he was a walking corpse by the final game.

Ultimately I agree with the idea that Balotelli is overrated, which is also unfair to him since we have unreasonable expectations. Our attack would be just as potent with Immobile.

And of course all of this is ignoring the fact that we got **** by the ref. I don't think we played well but neither did Uruguay, they were no more deserving than us. We just got incredibly unlucky and they didn't.

Italy has brighter future than England, better young players. But the defensive players have been a major downgrade from the days of Maldini, Nesta, Cannavaro, etc.
Same happens with the strikers, Balotelli is extremely overrated because of non football stuff and i dont see great young strikers. Del Piero or Totti have also been greatly missed, even Inzaghi.
Midfield should be fine.

And yes, Uruguay won just because of a corner kick, a 0-0 should have been the "fair" result.

Immobile, Destro and Berardi is a pretty sweet young trio of strikers. The positions just not as great as it was in the 90s and Oughts. What we do have a lot of now are these wide forwards which is why I've been very excited by seeing all of the teams at this WC playing with no striker and two wide forwards like Chile have been doing since Bielsa was still getting them qualified for South Africa.

That's what I wanted to see Real Madrid doing with CR7 and Bale running around in front of Ozil, and what I wanted to see Jogi doing with Reus and Mueller ahead of Mesut for the NT. It's the next tactical step that we've been seeing a lot of from the teams that have to be resourceful, in germany Tuchel and Streich have done similar things up front for a while now only out of a 4-4-2 shell rather than the 3-4-1-2 shell that a lot of teams are using at this WC.

And with that evolution I think italian are brilliantly positioned, this is a country that **** midfielders and all 3 of those guys I mentioned seem to be exactly the kind of forwards who'd be perfect as a pair of wide forwards, with the likes of Candreva, Rossi and whoever it is I'm spazzing on being able to help keep from rushing those kids.

Their future is very bright indeed if the backline is replaced well as they age out.

Don't know about that. England has a very good group of young players coming through with Sturridge, Wilshere, Ox, Sterling, Barkley, Shaw, Stones, Jones, Flanagan, Chambers. Plus, Theo's still only 24, Henderson/Welbeck are early 20's too.

And there's a host of very strong looking youth prospects like Butland, Ward-Prowse, Chalobah, Keane, Berahino, Moore, who are all in the 16-18 range and will be coming through in the next couple years. England have a fairly bright future if we can get some decent management in, I think.

Edit: Wish Rodwell hadn't **** his career up by going to City at 19, he's a super talent, but hasn't done anything for years. Could have been that physical midfield presence England needs

There are no more trequartistas in Italy which is a worry but I think our defense will be fine with De Sciglio/Chiellini/Darmian, we just another quality center back. I think nicola murru is gonna be world class one day too so for full backs we are great.

Midfield should be fine I agree.

Definitely the biggest worry is our attack. I have high hopes for Berardi and destro.
