Yeah I don't see barca running away with the league like that. Real will always keep it close

Also, would have rather had Laporta win the elections. Not a fan of bartomeu

Okay deal lol. I'll renege if Modric or James miss significant time. 3+ weeks

Real always bounce back. I expect Liga and Copa. Fully healthy, their team is better. Barca have better forwards but from top to bottom, Real have a more talented unit.

Defensively, it's a wash. Pique had a very good season, but who is his partner? Masch? I'd take Marcelo over Alba and Alves over Carvajal/Danilo

Midfield should favor Madrid. Modric, Isco, Kroos, James vs Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta

The attack clearly favors Barcelona. MSN much greater than any combination that Madrid has.

I say the only clear advantage Barza have is their front 3. The others are either a wash or favor Madrid.

I wouldn't say that Real is better at more individual positions. It is closer that they appear to be. the biggest thing that Real has had for the past decade is team chemistry. They buy players based on skill alone and don't look at how they will play together. I like our chances to repeat, but i don't think it will be a double digit lead.

Barcelona's greatest advantage is that front 3, what a perfectly put together trident.

Only clear advantage Madrid should have is their midfield based on individual talent alone. But the barca players have been together for years, there's just a better cohesion and chemistry there
Should be a good season, expecting a close fight for the title

barca has better defense, that's not up for debate. only area real is up to bar with barca is midfield, but barca's chemistry and superior coaching swings that to their way.

I'll take Pepe, Ramos, Varane over the Barcelona CBs. Barcelonas great defensive numbers had a lot to do with the full team pressing and possession game.

Barcelona was a better defensive unit, but I don't think their defenders are necessarily better. Their best Is Pique and he's on the same level as Ramos /Pepe

You mean a coach who has won at every club he's been at? Benitez has actual coaching pedigree, and he'll need it because coaching at Madrid is a challenge thanks to madman Perez who will buy any player regardless of need.

Put a donkey in a suit and it'd win at Barcelona.

I really don't think Barca has better defense.

Alba-Masc-Pique-Alves vs Marcelo-Varane-Ramos-Carvajal.

Pepe vs Matthieu

Really it is a toss up for me.

it was the consensus in last year's cl thread that real defense, particularly their center backs, has been vulnerable against just about every good opponent. dont know what happened oversummer break that turned pepe and ramos into some sort of world class players.

real had the 5th best defense in liga and that has nothing to do with possession, they had the possession in 37 out 38 games. i cant imagine team like villarreal having more of the possession than real, yet they allowed less than them.
