Re: England National Football Team Thread
he was Englands best player in the qualifiers and Roy trusts him. He will start if healthy(who knows) I have no doubt. Which is harsh on the guys that have been balling all year while he's been out. Hopefully he delivers

I'd take Drinkwater over him every day of the week, even if he was fit, but I guess we'll both see the homeboy as better.
I hope that Woy doesn't end up taking so many players who are just getting back from injuries or basing selection on past glories.
England need to choose a form team who are playing well at the end of the season and have been playing well consistently throughout the season.
Spurs and Leicester based team for me.
Did a liverpool based team after they killed the 2013/2014 season and couldn't even win a game in Brazil. Might not be a good idea you know.

And we've had many old glory teams that have been terrible too.
I guess we'll have to look at the philosophy in 1966 if we stick to that line of thought.

I don't think you can get away with buying the refs the way you could in '66

where's the prem league thread gone?
Wham have a goal disallowed for a false offside and then Arsenal score with an offside goal!

There seems to be a thread title glitch, it's back now though

Eh, someone like Drinkwater is probably a better option than Hendo, if you are using Alli and Dier as well.

I'd say, it's definitely good news for England.

Re: England National Football Team Thread
I think that we have enough potential midfield replacements to soften the loss of Hendo. I don't rate him that highly but he's experienced at the very least.
Shame (for England) that Iwobi chose to play for Nigeria, he's about the only Arsenal youngster I really rate. Seems like he has a hand in every goal they score now.

Re: England National Football Team Thread
Watching Leicester and Tottenham play these last few games I truly hope that Woy selects Spur's young guns alongside Vardy and Drinkwater. I hope he doesn't bottle it by going for the "name" players of yesteryear.
I feel convinced that Vardy and Kane can be an elite partnership - especially if Kane starts to pass Vardy the ball when he's on the run ( I feel he hasn't done that more because of competition for places than because of greediness) - If they can be fed by Alli and Drinkwater - the players that know their idiosyncracies and games so well then for the first time in many years I feel that England can have a good finals.
Woy - go on the attack - play the in form and best players AT THE MOMENT. Make England proud.

Imo Antonio should be one if the first wingers called up. Hopefully Sterling and walcott wont get called before him

I agree with that, especially over Walcott. You know Sterling will get called up since Roy trusts him, but Antonio should definitely get a spot over Walcott/Ox

Antonio is good, I really liked him at Forest even before he joined West Ham, a very brave and aggressive player. Sterling has been mostly poor this season but yeah, he'll get picked on reputation and for his decent performances at the World Cup.
Think Defoe should be considered tbh, but I doubt he'll get in.

Can't see any chance of a new player being called up for the finals. If they were then surely Albrighton should get the call. He is a direct winger with a great cross and he defends very well too. I'm sure his stats are exceptional this season.

Can't believe he is picking Townsend. Nothing player.

Re: England National Football Team Thread
Provisional 26-man squad:
Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Manchester City), Fraser Forster (Southampton), Tom Heaton (Burnley).
Defenders: Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Everton), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur), Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool).
Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Ross Barkley (Everton), Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Danny Drinkwater (Leicester City), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), James Milner (Liverpool), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Andros Townsend (Newcastle United), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal).
Strikers: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United).
Rashford over Defoe is one of the most puzzling.
