Re: International Break thread
What is it with England managers trying to shoe horn the Names into the starting 11......No Harry Kane available, but Ollie Watkins and Solanke in the squad and the manager chooses not to start a striker. Both guys have both had a great last 12-18 months and must be scratching their heads as to why neither of them started.

Re: International Break thread
So another International break for Nations League?
One of the PL players said they might have to strike, because it's too much workload on them.

Re: International Break thread
Very curious to see how Burkardt looks with the senior NT. Feel like he, Undav, & Wirtz could really click.
Also hoping this is the break where we start to see the transition to Pavlovic-Stiller with one of them replacing Groß next to Andrich.

Tuchel apparently in talks with the English FA for the England manager job. Wouldn't be opposed to that.

And now it's confirmed. Tuchel is the new England manager.

Assume that means he's not the next United manager!

I think he'll be good for England. Automatic respect of the players, has a clear system.

No, you'll be getting his predecessor: Southgate.

Yeah, I'm happy to have him. Interested in seeing how he'll set them up.
I'd say that most people are pleased with the appointment, although the usual suspects have reacted as you might expect. There are Daily Mail and gammon adjacent journalists crying about England appointing a German and describing it as a "dark day for England", which would be hilarious if it wasn't so pathetic and xenophobic.
The only thing that concerns me is whether or not he's up for the job, which I believe he is. Looking forward to the Tuchel era.

Re: International Break thread
South American WCQ Standings with about 8 games to go for each team:
1 Argentina...22pts
2 Colombia...19pts
3 Uruguay.....16pts
4 Brazil........17pts
5 Ecuador......13pts
6 Paraguay.....13pts
7 Bolivia........12pts
8 Venezuela....11pts
9 Peru...........6pts
10 Chile........5pts
Top 4 is predictable and expect it to stay the same.
It is surprising how far Chile has fallen, but I guess they don't have anyone playing in a top league anymore.

Re: International Break thread
Good break for us. Undav continued his form in the first game despite half our starting attack missing. And we got our look at Stiller-Pavlo against a quality opponent in the second game. Both times seeing out close wins late. Also got nice cameos from Burkardt, and a fantastic debut from Leweling against the Dutch.
I think we found our best back 4 + double pivot in that last match...and I'm more than happy with Baumann deputizing until ter Stegen is back and in form. Still need to see if they hold up against a truly elite opponent, but I'm really excited at the idea of heading to NA with:
Havertz
Wirtz - Undav - Musiala
Stiller/Andrich - Pavlovic
Mittelstädt - Schlotterbeck - Rüdiger - Kimmich
ter Stegen
ST: Füllkrug / Kleindienst / Weiper / Moerstedt
SS/W: Burkardt / Beier / Moukoko / Werner
AM/W: Wanner / Gruda / Leweling / Adeyemi / Sane / Gnabry / Führich / Brandt / Bischof / Darvich / Brunner
LB: Raum / Gosens / Henrichs / Netz / Rothe / Kabar
CB: Tah / Anton / Chabot / Süle / Thiaw / Bisseck

There must be other teams which will be in groups with those teams?
If it's only those 8 countries ending up in groups of 4, then that would mean only 4 of those 8 teams would qualify?

Correct. There will be 4 pots that teams are drawn from, those 8 are just the pot 1 teams.

I find it hilarious the amount of ex players having a whinge about a non English manager...some of which played under Sven.
As an Australian, we have had a variety of managers, but for the most part, the international managers we had were the best.
Ange was great for us, but faced lots of backroom infighting with our hierachy (who had media in their back pocket) as he did things HIS way with very little compromise to what they wanted.

Correct. There will be 4 pots that teams are drawn from, those 8 are just the pot 1 teams.
To expand on this, European Qual group stage draw will take place on Dec 13th.
All teams in each group won't be known yet at the draw since Nations League playoffs are not concluded by then.
"Qualifiers begin in March 2025 and end with the play-offs in March 2026. Teams will be drawn into 12 groups of four and five teams. Teams drawn in groups of five will begin qualifying in March and teams drawn in groups of four start their campaigns in September. All groups conclude in November 2025."
"The 12 group winners qualify directly for the World Cup. The 12 group runners-up participate in the play-offs, along with the four best-ranked group winners of the 2024/25 UEFA Nations League that did not finish their European Qualifiers group stage in first or second place."

Re: International Break thread
Isn't there a discussion about the quality of the British coaches/managers?
The selfproclaimed best football nation in the world doesn't have a manager from their own country, the league hasn't been won by an English manager in forever, dito Champions League.

as cgf added, there will be 12 groups...the other four pot 1 teams have not been established yet. Next international break will decide those teams. As of now it's looking like Croatia, Switzerland, Denmark, and Austria...with Poland, Hungary and Serbia still in the running
