Re: Chelsea Football Club Thread Part II
For me, I don't see him as the answer to the CF position. Outside of his statistics for non-penalty goals, he's the complete package. And when you consider he's homegrown, I can see why Liverpool is interested. That £100m price tag, though...
EDIT: Does tend to miss several matches a year, be it through injury or other reasons.

No, but I wouldn't be playing him as a sole 9. He's more of a second striker and we play with Palmer and Enzo behind the actual focal point.
I'd start him alongside Palmer in that box midfield, or a Rogers, or a Mastantuono.
Notoriously not been a fan of Enzo's usage as a Lampard type box crashing midfielder, even if he's upped his G+A tally this season

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but are you saying he's play as a false 9?
And yes, that last game against Nottingham Forest is massive. There's still so many possibilities as so who gets a CL spot. Manchester City are no guarantee either. But for Chelsea, win and they are in. Anything else opens the door.

So Maresca operates a similar style to Pep historically where the 4-3-3- shifts to a 3-4-3 with the ball.
It's why Caicedo can be listed as a right back on the team sheet but is realistically operating as midfielder in possession.
So in possession when we have the ball, we've played Caicedo and Lavia as the deeper pivot of the box with Palmer and Enzo as the more attacking pivot. If we signed an a player like Pedro I'd play him beside Palmer in that box.
I think there's a very good chance we could sign two strikers this summer, especially with the report that we'd sell Jackson at the right price.

I'm following you with Caicedo and Lavia.
Are you then saying Enzo wouldn't play (Pedro plays the pivot next to Palmer) or would Pedro be in Haaland's spot just not as further forward?
I only ask because there's been a debate where Wirtz would play if Liverpool is able to sign him.

Yea unless Enzo's playing deeper I wouldn't play him the way he's been used this season.
For Liverpool honestly I think they should be going all out for Wharton.
Play Wharton deepest, Gravenberch B2B and let Mac Allister be the attacking midfielder. Szobo as legs / depth / squad talent.
If you signed Wirtz, I'm not sure. I guess Gravenberch would be solidified as your long term 6 and then you'd play Wirtz and either Szobo/Mac10 beside him.
Feels awfully attacking at the expense of solidity, especially with Frimpong now as your RB and an aging van Dijk.

Wharton has been linked with Liverpool. And so has Stuttgart's Stiller. It's clear the club is looking for a deep-lying midfielder who can pass.
I think with Wirtz, he's just too good of a talent to pass up. Though, signing him leads to more questions than answers. I do remember Slot playing two 10's on occasion.

That part is absolutely true. Wirtz is a certified killer and only 22 years of age. Would terrorize me for the remainder of the 2020s for sure if he moved on over to Anfield.
I wonder if he's the alternative for LFC or MCFC

Still believe Wirtz ends up at Bayern Munich, though Bayer Leverkusen cannot stand them. It's why Havertz and Brandt ended up at Chelsea and Dortmund. It's the hope I cling to.
And yes, there was talk about Cherki prior to Wirtz coming into the frame. Despite the value, his off the ball effort may clash with Slot. Simons is another that's been linked. Based on this, Elliott's time with the club is likely up.

I would keep him and I think he has real upside of being an impact attacker that's difficult to contain in specific contexts, however he's not irreplaceable. The attack in general needs some touching up.
Moretto (Fabrizio's right hand man) is putting out pieces that we'd consider selling him. Same thing with Madueke since last summer. Jackson needs a season with genuine competition up top. He's just not good enough to be a nailed on starter week in and week out.
He's very fast, good at dribbling, can pin centre backs etc but he has no aerial ability, he can't strike a football with either foot and has no concept's of how to threaten defense's with his movement within the 18Y box.

Bailey is like tier 7, so this is more than likely guesswork, but I see the Dutchpool connection. Dijk, Gakpo, Frimpong, Gravenberch, Simons...?

What have you hearing about Chelsea? Outside of the previous chase for Huijsen, I haven't see much.

PL Expected Assists (xA)
1st) Salah - 9.17
2nd) Palmer - 9.0
3rd) Mbeumo - 8.93
PL Chances Created:
1st) Bruno - 88
2nd) Palmer - 87
3rd) Salah - 85
PL Assist Leaders:
1st) Salah - 18
2nd) Murphy - 12
3rd) Elanga - 11

Absolutely let down this season by Jackson and Madueke. If we don't secure UCL the fans need to rush these two before they can escape the City Ground.

Saw us both linked to Hato by Fabrizio, not sure if that's a CB link or a left back link.
Also perpetually connected to Guehi. Saw a minor Branthwaite link sometime ago as well.
I want our hipster scouts to go and secure the services of Cristhian Mosquera at Valencia. Plays that 'aggressor' style like Fofana, but far better on the ball. This is a chance at crafting our own Gabriel or Konate. PSG are linked though.

Now that you say that, I did see the Hato links. Personally, not sold, and all signs are pointing to Kerkez being Liverpool's left back priority. Romano has even said LB will be the club's next signing.
I would actually be worried about the amount of Dutch players Slot is bringing in if Hato comes. Think I'll leave him to you Blues.
