I like Granit Xhaka's (Swiss Captain) perspective on the matter. It is cliche though for the Swiss to play neutral though haha

"I don't think we need to do anything as the Swiss team. We need to respect the rules and concentrate on our football, that's all I intend to do"

"We're hear to play football and not hand out lessons to anyone."

Also, imo, If they wanted to bring awareness to the treatment of migrant workers, they should wear bands specific to that. You can't clump everything into one movement.

they don't give a crap about migrant workers, we're talking about the same people buying iPhones and Nikes made in sweat shops in China and Nam.

we know what this is really about.

if the answer is no, they should stfu and mind their own business.

Millions of people around the world from "privileged hypocritical countries" protested the Iraq war. Will the Germans protest in 2026? Not really the same thing, since the war will not be ongoing, like the current persecution of gay people in Qatar. Lots of people DID protest in the US during the war on terror. Also, no one will silence them in the US if they did want to protest. FIFA might try to I guess, since they're like the IOC in that regard, gotta protect the bag, but it wouldn't matter to Americans if someone did decide to protest the results of a war that ended around a decade prior to that event. The US has a pretty rich history of athletes and activism, and that has only really increased lately. Which is something you've probably complained about.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

bro - I am asking you a simple question:

will Germany do the same thing in 2026 when the WC is in America?

yes or no?

who is a worse human rights abuser...Qatar or the US? who has murdered and displaced MILLIONS the last 2 decades? Qatar or the US?

simple questions.

Why do you need to hear me say it? I don't think they will protest the Iraq war or anything else in the middle east. Why would they do that in 2026? It's a silly analogy.

They were provoked by Serbian fans who were cursing at them all game. That's just classic football/soccer banter. Everyone knows Eastern European fans are nuts.

And how is an Eagle hand gesture "a lesson". He was not forcing his values on anybody. It was just classic football banter. "You want to curse at me for having Albanian/Kosovo heritage. Fine. Take this."

It'd be like Qataris getting pissed after players made heart symbols lol.

I have yet to see any of these Arab nations excessively boo players for personal reasons.

I have no problem with them showing up the Serbian fans in that way but those were explicitly political gestures and definitely not just "classic football banter".

why not in 2026? the US is STILL in the ME, and has the blood of MILLIONS on its hands. why don't those human rights warrant a protest from Germany?

the irony of the biggest human rights abusers always sanctimoniously lecturing others about 'human rights'. they should stfu and mind their own business unless they are actually willing to protest real human rights issues. you don't get to pick and choose when it's convenient for you to protest and expect everyone to take you seriously.

everyone is glad Germany is out, and they should be embarrassed for the show they put on this WC.

No, it's not about that. If this World Cup was held in Turkey or Egypt in June-July, we wouldn't be having these conversations.

it's funny how we don't hear any lecturing from Japan or the South American teams. it's always the same select few self righteous regimes that feel like they always need to lecture black and brown and Muslim people about morality when it's the complete opposite.

just play soccer and shut up, no one wants to hear it. to the dismay of many in the West this is turning into not only one of the better WCs ever but one of the best run WCs ever as well.

Everyone is glad Germany is out because they are a traditional soccer powerhouse who win all the time, not because everyone hates gay people as much as you do.

The US is not in a war in ME.

Gay people going to prison is not a real issue? Got it.

I think those celebrations were fair game considering what the Serbian fans were doing. They turned it into Albania Vs. Serbia 3.0.

I actually like these rivalry games. Very intense.

Doesn't look like we will see Croatia Vs Serbia, but that woulda been epic if we did.

I'm Muslim myself, and admit that I think Qatar operates too extreme.

But here's my thing. WTF are we going to do about it? The whole world knows how Qatar operates. They have their laws set. Nothing is going to change that.

Wearing rainbow bands does nothing. Hate to sound so dark, but sounds like the West is pushing a bunch of preambles to eventually invade them. Hard pass from me. They don't want saving. But USA wants their riches.

I wish my fellow muslims would give other the rights they are asking for. If I have the right to pray in the middle of the office 5 times a day, or have a break every Friday around noon, I should at least for gay people NOT to go to prison, among other rights.

Unfortunately there is not much of a diff between some of us and the evangelicals that are preaching for religious rights as long as it is their religion.

People have the right to protest whatever they want.

of course Qatar operates a more extreme, more literal version of Islam. i personally don't care what two grown ass adults do in the bedroom together, and I don't think Qatar should care either, but I am not gonna go to THEIR country and lecture them about it, especially if I am from a country responsible for the most bloodshed on the planet since WW2 pretending to all of the sudden care about human rights.

and, again, glass houses. America has the highest non-violent incarceration rate in the world. how about people worry about their own country first before finger wagging at anyone else?

Germans can do protest how they want, doesn't mean people shouldn't be allowed to take it as disrespect or see it as hilariously hypocritical.
