There's a lot that have a darker look. Maybe from their Ottoman days. And they are on the Mediterranean so could have some mix of North African as well.

Speaking for myself... But no lol, I don't think Germany lost because they were "too woke". They can do what they want. But I also don't have to support it.
I was glad too see them lose after their "we have no voice" antics. These underdog teams in Africa + Japan and elsewhere just play with much more energy and pride for their respective country. So much more fun to root for. While these western nations were just looking for reasons to complain.
Lot of these privileged western nations always want to push their values on other people. They'll complain about Qatar but only after their respective nations took their bribe money which got Qatar the World Cup in the first place. Exhibit A, Sepp Blatter.
Also, these western nations complaining about not being able to wear "One Love" armbands or rainbow flags, they'll have the same supporters scream racial slurs to their non-white players. We saw it with England when their black players missed penalties against Italy in the Euro 2020 finals. Lukaku always says, when he fails, "he has Congo heritage". Same with Ozil being a Muslim Turkish immigrant if he fails for Germany. Benzema said the same thing. When he fails, he's Arab.
Maybe they should focus on their own country's xenophobia problems instead of finger-pointing at other nations.
I was the first one to talk chit about Qatar. I will admit that. I made a thread about it on the CA board. But this so far has been a beautiful World Cup and at this pace, could go down as one of the best.
Well said, Stannis. Now you're a true member of the "best posters of RealGM" club.
Let people enjoy the sport, for God's sake. Leave politics antics out of this.
Have you watched the "FIFA Uncovered" series on Netflix? You'll love it.
Cheers.
I watched it. It got my blood boiling though that Blatter was basically smirking throughout that whole thing. Wish we got that fvker behind bars lol. But guys like Blatter and Jack Warner were smart in many ways and I they had fall guys in place to cover their tracks.
I wish they focused on 2018 Russia and even the 2006 Germany bribe allegations as well.
Still crazy to me that Qatar gets most of the focused. But literally Russia hosted the thing in 2018. 4 years after they invaded Ukraine/Crimea

Boring?????
Ghana fans have not forgotten about Uruguay in 2010. They want revenge.
And the Serbs want revenge on the Swiss and their Albanian/Kosovar players. They still remember Xhaka and Shaqiri's Eagle celebration. Serbia had a map of Kosovo in their locker rooms with words saying something like "We do not give up".
We witnessed history yesterday. But I think today will have a couple of epic matches as well.
The Cameroon/Brazil and Portugal/South Korea matches might be boring. But I think Ghana/Uruguay and Swiss/Serbia will be epics.
Boring as in not as exciting as the last 2 days.
I doubt that the current Ghana players care about 2010. Maybe just Andre Ayew, but the rest of them were not part of that team.

I guess the one thing that makes tomorrow less exciting is that in both groups, a team has already punched their ticket out of the group, so it's three teams playing for 1 spot per group. Still it should be a fun day.

Great post overall! Regarding the game itself, I feel as though players might be in better shape than usual cause the world cup usually starts after a 1 month break for most players, plus it's usually at the end of the season so guys are also kinda fatigued. This time they got just enough games under their belt with their club teams to get in perfect game shape and didn't have some kind of extended of extended break, therefore, they are really ready to ball.

Hey man, the mixture of genetics and DNA here in this area of Croatia and the neighbouring countries is just, how should I put it, diverse

Reading the German youtube comments it's funny how a lot of the fans blame the team's issues on Spain not being competitive enough and letting Japan win. Some say that FIBA should make a rule to ensure that countries play as hard as possible.
Just imagine teams getting sanctioned because they didn't play as well as expected. Those fans are just delusional.

Nah I think the players do care about 2010, I don't want to generalize but the consensus amongst the majority of Ghanaians is that they want to smash Uruguay. I still remember how pissed Ghanaians were at the time, my cousin supports Liverpool and at the time he was so conflicted about Suarez because of what he did.

I'm not going against your cousin personally, I've also read that people want Suarez to apologize for what he did. I just find the resentment incredibly stupid. Suarez didn't hurt anyone. All he did was sacrifice himself and give his team another shot. Any defender can do that at any time, but most won't. The goalkeeper didn't even need to save that penalty, the Ghanaian player did all of the work by himself.
It's kind of like a player stealing the ball in the final possession of game 7 of an NBA playoff series, he is sure that he's going to get 2 easy points to win the game, but now an opposing player comes and fouls him at the buzzer without hurting him. However, now the dude is forced to earn those two points at free throw line. The player then goes on to miss the free throws and his team loses. The penalty kick conversion rate is around 75% and so is the average NBA free throw percentage. That's why I think the two are comparable.
In the NBA or in basketball in general missing those free throws would be considered a choke job and would tarnish a player's legacy, while in soccer those shortcomings can easily just be blamed on the opposing team's players. Just like how German fans are conveniently blaming their inability to advance to the next stage on Spain.

Well today should be uneventful, the teams that have advanced, need to make sure no one gets hurt. It is that simple.

Definitely and to be honest most people would do that to save their country/club in a high stake game. Gyan should've buried the penalty however, I think the reason why he missed was the events prior. I think it rattled the whole team. It's created this good story arch and I think for most sports this is what the media/fans love, they love a good sporting story that can create a rivalry. I'm not sure if Uruguayans share the same feeling of it being a rivalry though.

I think what made the Saurez situation worse was that he got red card and was suppose to leave the field. But he was still chilling in the tunnel and watched the PK. Then celebrated when Gyan missed lol. That still haunts Ghana fans.
