A great manager with a growing reputation for sure, but I wonder if it's too soon. It feels like a difficult job with the malaise hanging over it, even with the wealth of resources available at the club.

I echo your thought tbh, it’s hard to see a club like Chelsea being patient enough for Potter ball to come into full effect. He deserves it though, his coaching journey is amazing from being a coach at Hull university to joining Chelsea in 15 years.

I think that the manager is crucial in a club but I also think that they are not as in control of results as too many fans think. Potter is good and I don't blame him for moving to a team where he'll coach champion's league and be involved in trophies, because as we know that's unlikely to happen at Brighton (the same for most of the other14).

However he went through a lean period at Brighton last season and was kept on ( rightfully). If he goes through a patch even half as bad he'll get sacked at Chelsea. And I'm not sure they have the defenders needed for a good season (given all the matches to be played).

I feel a little sorry for Tuchel - he did win the Champion's league and was he in 8 cup finals over the short period he's been there.

I think Prem teams have acted like naive supporters in recent years and concentrated too much time and money buying attacking players and flair players - yes you need them in order to win but more importantly you need a solid defence that will allow those flair players the time and possession and lack of defensive responsibility to influence the match. Rodgers fell into this trap at Leicester, he has attacking intentions with at least 2 flair midfielders, wingers and Wing backs but he then leaves us with 2 CBs at the back to try and stop the opposition when they break. He's concentrated on bringing in attacking wingbacks when what we most need is a solid defence. We need a true RB and LB at the moment to help the CBs. He also panics and switches to 3 CBs so that his WBs can stay up but he hasn't invested in CBs. Jonny Evans when fit has worked wonders to cover for other players but he can't and hasn't been able to do it all on his own.

Chelsea have been in so many finals recently because they had a solid defence but this year they let Rudiger and Christiansen go for nothing and didn't replace them (until last week with a talented but young and learning Fofana). This is why they've crashed at the beginning of this season, Liverpool too have focussed on attackers and are now paying the price for not having a good enough defence (and I include midfield in the term defence). Last season Arsenal saw that their defence was weak and have at least tried to remedy. spurs have had a deadly front line for a long time but Conté has brought in defensive stability and focus which has improved them. And of course Man U have suffered terribly because of their defence.

In short I think the prem have listened to their own hype and focussed on the wrong part of football philosophy in the quest for eye catching money bringing play at the expense of defence and teams are starting to pay for that.

I realized they had to do it but are they going to push this weekend's matches back by a week?

Actually the national period of mourning could be at least 10 days so it may push next weekend's matches too.

What happens during the international break especially the WC?

They'll be rearranged - probably for the new year.

Queen's funeral is for 19 September at Westminster Abbey.

So if the EPL maintains the postponement past that date, then next weekend's games would also be pushed.

Games in London may be postponed but others will go ahead.

Detailed look at the schedule.

Read in ESPN: https://apple.news/At10CIRJbTySms89cnJP-Vg

It's not going to be easy to re-schedule the missed games. It gets busy in January, after the WC break, with the different cup matches and at the end of the season there are the 2024 Euro qualifiers, right after the UCL final in early June.

Tuchel is probably glad he is gone given he had owners that were suggesting him to play 4-4-3.

Just wait for more postponements when we have terrible weather in January/February

Villa vs. Southampton has to be one of the worst top flight football matches I've ever seen. Villa will take the points, though.

No quality whatsoever, neither team able to put a passing move together, rife with errors. Makes you wonder what the money is even spent on in the Premier League, or if it even matters when the standard of coaching is so poor.

City grinds on like a machine.

Now they're not giving away silly goals and falling behind any more.

The only criticism now is that City buys great players like Grealish and they don't get much production out of them.

Or maybe the idea is to deny good players to other EPL teams and park them on the City roster.

We look absolutely **** this season.

Only make chances through crosses and corners, and concede a ton of chances at the other end.

Leicester easily the better team so far.

But we can't stop a corner to save our lives.

I wonder if Southgate has his eyes open. Madders should be playing those friendlies next week.

We need to play 3-5-2 from the start, I think. Looked so much better since Bissouma and Son came on, can actually get out of our own half. Great to see Sonny back.

Amazing how poor we've been but scored 6 goals. Surely the end for Brendo.

Big respect to Maddison for coming out and talking to the press there. Ridiculous question about him not being picked for England, what's he supposed to say to that after a 6-2 loss in which he hasn't put a foot wrong? Sky is such a shambles sometimes, I swear.
