Mot a very good performance from the Gunners. Squalici and Djourou were horrible. Frimpong was ok. I thought Nasri did well. Arshavin, who looks trimmed down played a lovely ball to RVP that led to the Vela goal. Walcott had so many chances to score in the second half but left his shooting boots at home.

Btw - the Arsenal player on Arsenal.com was free. You just click log in and the steam will start. The HD stream looked really good, hoping they don't fix the problem for rest of the preseason.

Nasri was okay but didn't nearly have as much defensively to do playing there as he would in the PL, obviously. Wilshere looked lively I thought.

Hopefully AW brings in another defender. I'd be happy with any of Samba, Hangeland, Rolando, or Izaguirre at this point.

Arsenal v FC Cologne first half, 2-1 to the Gunners. Gerviniho scores 2 in 30 minutes, and Jenkinson scores a beautiful goal on a volley, but it was in his own net.

Wenger has admitted that he will buy another defender this summer, although he hasn't made any clarification on who it will be and what position on the back line it will be for. I know we've all probably known this for awhile but its good to hear it from the horse's mouth.

Most likely a CB, though price/style is anyone's guess

I REALLY want Jan Vertonghen. His versatility would be a huge asset and he can cover for Song at DM (I really really don't want to see Diaby there) when ACN comes around. The way I see it, we can run Vertonghen and TV in the middle, TV at left back with Vertonghen and Koscielny/Djourou in the middle, or Vertonghen at DM with TV and Koscielny/Djourou in the middle when Song is off at ACN.

Perhaps. I know there are many that desperately want a CB, but tbh I think we're much weaker at LB and DM. I'd rather have signings specifically for those positions rather than CB's that can cover. *shrug*

Vertonghen plays DM for Belgium right? I think he's probably as safe a bet as anyone to be a backup there for Song (or Wilshere). I completely agree about LB. I like both Gibbs and Traore but I'm not sure that either one is fully ready to step into that role full time. Unless we sell a couple of our midfielders, I fear that Arsene may be too cheap to actually sign more than one notable player.

I've never seen him play so I can't answer. A signing that can cover both CB and DM would be great though.

I can't see Wenger buying a DM. There have been some good DM's that have moved such as Inler, Vidal, Melo and Toulanan and Arsenal have shown no interest. I hope that the defender is Cahill and Squalici moves on.

To be honest, I don't see DM as a glaring need. I'm not even sure that all of those guys listed above are better than Song at this point. Barring injury, he's only gone for ACN so at most, we need a guy (Vertonghen?) at a different position who can play DM if needed. We've also got Frimpong who is a pretty good young player and would probably be a better option than spending a lot of money on someone like Melo or Toulalan. Is it really worth spending 12-14M on another DM when ACN is going to keep Song away for around 6 weeks?

IMO Song only works well with a more pro-active CM playing with him, which is Wilshere. When anyone else played with him last year they went to ****. And I don't think he can play a lone DM position. So I'd rather sign a guy better than Song, that can play lone DM. That way when Wilshere's out we can play

--------Gervinho---Walcott-------
-----------------RVP-----------------
--------Ramsey-----Fabregas------
------------------DM-----------------
Gibbs-Vermaelen-Djourou-Sagna
--------------Szczesny--------------

instead of

----Gervinho---RVP---Walcott----
---------------Fabregas--------------
------------Diaby---Song------------
Gibbs-Vermaelen-Djourou-Sagna
--------------Szczesny--------------

Assuming the worst. Replace Gervinho with Nasri if he stays.

Eboue is off to Galatasaray for 4M and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas off to Ipswich for 1M

Looks like AW is finally doing some cleaning up. I remember when Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was one of his absolute favorites...

Lansbury close to Norwich move

Arseblog News has learned that Henri Lansbury is close to a permanent move to newly promoted Norwich City.

The England U21 midfielder has only one year left on his contract and enjoyed a fine loan spell at Carrow Road last season, appearing 15 times and scoring 4 goals.

On his Twitter account yesterday he posted the following message, “Is it time for a new chapter, hmmm”, before deleting it, which led many to speculate about his future.
