But heavily sponsored HSV, ruled by a billionaire with his money who saved their a$$es a couple times, does?

Are Dortmund a Kommerzverein as well then?

Every club is a Kommerzverein.

He mentioned HSV because "they got saved by billionaire". What about Dortmund and their history in the 90s that almost cost them in the 00s where they were dead until Papa Uli saved them.

Kommerz: Leverkusen, Wolfsburg, Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig, Ingolstadt. Maybe 1860 München as well, but at least they have history, fans and traditions unlike the ones i mentioned above.
Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, Kevin Garnett, Toni Kroos, Pep Guardiola, Ernst Happel, Joachim Löw.

OK, where did I mention Dortmund not being one of them or being a fan of what happened back then or mentioned them at all?

IMO, they should've been send to the 3rd division back then cause they knew what they were doing and still got saved by the DFL and others like Hoeneß.
But that's something which started before with Kaiserslautern, who also got a lot of help but ultimatly couldn't keep it up.

Too bad that a team like Freiburg had to be relegated back then because they worked with what they had financially and couldn't field a team staying up because of that, while Dortmund bought a title in 2002.

I mean it happened even to Gladbach as well, because that first relegation in 1999 was due to Rolf Rüssmann fu*** up our finances and because of that we had to sell Effenberg, Andersson etc.
And back then no one came to our rescue(we were dead financially and only because of the fans we were able to collect enough money to at least play 2nd Bundesliga) because of us crying about being a big club with quite a few titles and what not.

Dear Bundesliga Fans, your help is required! I am Johannes, a student of the University of Bayreuth (Germany). Of course, I am a big soccer fan and I follow and watch soccer as much as I can.

I am currently writing my Master thesis in cooperation with the Bundesliga about the international development of the Bundesliga, especially in the USA. Therefor we created a survey, which includes several questions about the current situation of the Bundesliga in the US (attractiveness, TV-presence, match-schedule, online and social media-availability, etc.). Through your replies, we have the chance to improve the prouct quality and bring the Bundesliga and the Bundesliga-Clubs closer to all of you.

By participating in the survey, which is of course 100% anonymous, if you want, you are able to win really cool prizes, like player issue jerseys of Arjen Robben (FC Bayern München) ,Kevin-Price Boateng (autographed - FC Schalke 04), and Max Kruse (formerly Borussia Mönchengladbach) and a official adidas Bundesliga-Matchball. Please find the survey and all the deatails under the following link:

https://ubayreuthmarketing.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cO1ANdYXhmCoJBb

We would be grateful if you could spare 10-15 minutes to fill out our survey.

Thank you all in advance and kind regards,
Johannes

Thanks to all, who already participated! Appreciate it!

Did some of you watch Dortmund yesterday in the Europa League qualifiers? It was a promising game of the BVB, i Think we can expect a lot from them in the upcomin season. It seems that Tuchel brought some fresh air into the squad. With Reus being totally recovered, they have one of the biggest weapons anyway. But I also also the new look in the defensice midfield. Especially Julian Weigl really surprises me. He showed great ball control and great passing skills so far. He will definitely compete with Sven Bender and Gonazlo Castro for the starting 11 (with Gündogan being seeded). What do you think?

Did your survey. Not interested in Schalke and Bayern gear though LOL. Straight up declined the raffle ;)

It was fun to do. Hope we can help you out.

I really hope Dortmund has a good season. I think we could win potentially win the Europa League if we get a bit lucky and team chemistry improves dramatically. As far as Bundesliga goes, we don't have a chance unfortunately (imo). But we absolutely need to place high this year. We can't have another year like last where we never address the chemistry issues and are stubborn in our coaching (I miss Klopp so **** much though, almost as much as Pierce on the Cs), the other issues we had last year will likely not be present. I believe we will stay healthy and find ways to finish strongly on offense.

Spoiler:
And this guy better not **** fool us all again Image

Excited for Reus to have a healthy, productive season.

I do see, that there are changes that tuchel brought in. But overall, one major problem, that kloppo also had, is still visible. they can absoulutly not score against teams, that are parking the bus. yes, they won 5-0 yesterday, but with better competition, they will struggle again. you can't be a top team when you score on 1 out of 100 chances.
too many urkels on your team, that's why your wins low

It's also so frustrating to watch. I felt like I wasted my time watching most of the games last year. We either played well and couldn't finish in the worst way, or we just lost control of the game and made the opponents play ugly football. Not that our style was particularly beautiful when everything happened to go our way in games over the past three/four years, lol.

I wanted to kill Misstarian several times last year, lol.

I honestly don't believe we will find a way to finish strong. Just trying to find some hope to hold on to. I mean, even Reus has been a bit too tentative in the play before and after the injury.

Sucks we're in Europa, made fun of that competition for years and now I am forced to embrace it or at least acknowledge it as a somewhat realistic goal, albeit we need a lot of things to go our way.

Club is in a weird place right now. But at least we have players that are in demand in EPL and can overcharge (Hummels perhaps) when the time comes.

That CL loss to Bayern still causes me a lot of mental anguish whenever I think about it. That, Celtics/Lakers 2010, Blackhawks/Bruins '13 and the second bowl loss to the Giants are the most destroyed I've been as a fan. When Robben did what he did, I just left my house (had a friend over and was with my girlfriend at the time) without a word and wandered the streets. Didn't feel real. And then everything sunk in and it was worse. Felt like the Giants catch amplified by a ton.

But, hey, at least I'm not a Knicks fan right now too.

Jk, Hijinx. Best of luck to the Knicks, unlike most New Englanders/Cs fans, I hope you guys win it all soon/at some point. Genuinely want your fanbase to get what they deserve. Would be great for the NBA as well.

**** every other NYC team though, haha. ;)

Maybe CGF can make us feel better about Dortmund's immediate future.

Today the first round of the german cup will be played.

I'm pretty sure cgf's going to be a huge FSV Frankfurt fan today, given that they're playing at BFC Dynamo.
The other matches are Erndtebrück vs Darmstadt and Elversberg vs Augsburg.

@theBundesliga:
Didn't participate in the journey given that I'm over here in Germany as well. :D
Really hope the Bundesliga gets it's sh** together and finally does something about gaining more interest internationally with broadcasting and sending teams over there.
If we don't we'll be in an even bigger disadvantage financially then we're already compared to England, Spain etc.

after reading this, i wondered. how long have you been a dortmund fan? being in the cl for so many years and winning national titles has been awesome, but really isn't something i expect out of this club year in, year out. they had a lot of years before klopp, where we were lucky to even play in europe. so "only" playing europa league doesn't strike me as such a bad thing. i am just glad they turned it around at the end of last season to even make it that far. as i watched the bundesliga over the years, no other team than bayern has been a regular in the champions league. seems you're a bit spoiled by the recent years. ;-)

i really hope that dortmund can establish itself as a clear cut no. 2 in germany though, where cl is not nice to have, but is merely expected. the foundation is there.

as for me being a knicks fan also. thank you for your kind words. it's been tough times and i really hope, they can finally turn it around. but with the knicks you never know. But as you know, i could never say anything kind about the C's and especially not your boy PP, so i'll leave it at that. since i don't really care about other sports, i would be ok, with NE teams being successfull there.
