Can Danny Williams play a central role? I know he's usually a defender, and he's been largely ineffective as a wing mid, so the only real option left is center something. He obviously has football talent but idk where he would optimize it.

williams played defensive mid in the 2nd game v jamaica (4-1-3-2 - williams was the 1 in that lineup). he looked great in this role. much better than he has looked when he is miscast as a right wing. its only one game, but it was promising. its his natural position.

He plays as a holder for hoffenheim. Makes sense that's were he looks best for the USNT.

lol, tell me about it. 7 goals in 4 matches. He's always had a ton of promise about him, came into MLS at 17 or something. I have high hopes for him and think he could be our best complete striker since Wynalda. Isn't he still 21 or something?

fatlever

i agree with this.

starter (backup)
formation 4-1-3-2

----------------dempsey (jozy)----------gomez(boyd/adu)-------------------

donovan(shea/gatt)--------bradley(torres/corona)--------zusi(klejstan)

-------------------------------------williams(jones)--------------------------

johnson(lichaj)--boca(edu)--cameron(goodson)--dolo(lichaj)

---------------------------howard(guzan/rimando)----------------------------

switch dempsey and gomez
if, people wanted another defender, we can switch corona out for parkhurst
i like corona, but he would b blocked by too many
klejstan and adu, gives us more Attacking and Creativity
beckerman gets bumped off, but williams and jones play his position, better than he does
even if we wanted to go to a 4-2-3-1 formation, williams + jones would still b preferable
or bradley, with zusi or klejstan playing in the middle

I think you can forget about guys like Klejstan and Adu for now, they have really been non-factors for the U.S. since Gold Cup '11. He did call-up Gatt for these last 2 games but he got hurt a few days before the Jamaica match in Kingston. I think he's someone that could emerge in the hex.

What happened to Antidote? He was such a promising career and now he can't even crack the national team.

He SHOULD be on the National team. The guy is tied in first in goals in Eredivisie and playing well. Not too concerned about him not making it this time, I'm sure he'll be there for the hex round, but where did the Alan Gordon call up come from? Over Wondolowski? It'll be interesting.

I haven't been following the team as close as I would like to, but from what I have seen from Hercules Gomez, I like Altidore better.

Looks like he had personal reasons for leaving Altidore off the team:

well Shea and Donovan are out. i doubt Altidore gets called up but i can see Wondolowski getting the late call. Its much deserved. USMNT will be fine without Landon with Zusi there, he's been ballin lately.

there is a Question, about Yellow Cards
looks like Zusi has 1, and if he gets a 2nd, he will b suspended for the next game
which would b a shame,
since its at his Home Field, in Kansas City

so now,
idk, if i want him to play in this game
and want him to go a full 90, on Tuesday vs Guatemala

the issue with the USA team is that we dont have a Creative/Attacking Midfielder,
to provide play to the Forwards,
so our Forwards have to be the forever moving, high work rate types,
which does Not fit Altidores game

but, Gomez is exactly that. a high work rate, always moving Forward

so, now i think Zusi doesnt play
we have 2 new starters
and we look something like this

Image

either Gordon or EJ starting at Forward
Dempsey moving to Mid (or Gomez)
and Kljestan starting at Mid

Jones and Fabian also have Yellows
IF we have the lead, maybe we take Fabian out for Castillo (who i dont like) or someone else

Five players are carrying yellow cards:

Bradley, Edu, Fabian Johnson, Jones and Zusi.

Their next caution will result in a one-match suspension.

I, would sit Jones, Edu, Zusi
sub out either Fabian or Bradley
around the 70th minute, hopefully with a 2-0 lead

No Fabian Johnson will hurt, but not even having Jozy on the team is plain stupid. He's our best striker since Wynalda and IMO has a shot at being even better.
