Rumor is PSV not Mainz.

Rumor is PSV bid 10 mil. + Bonus.
Liverpool wants 20-24 mil. €.

Unlikely to go through. Difference in valuation is too wide.

Just give him to us on loan again. :D

He's actually played well in these first two preseason matches, starting both, though Quansah has been the better of the two. I doubt he goes out on loan again. He's either kept as 4th CB or another club comes in.

Note, to some degree, I understand a new manager would like to see his current crop of players, but clearly they were not good enough to win the league last season. Changes are needed.

Yeah, starting to wonder if they know it's signing time.

We're a shambles at the moment.

Hughes and Slot wanted to assess the squad before making any transfer decisions. At the beginning of August, the "assessment" concluded with the club stating its priority was a DM. Any one who watched LFC last year (or even the last two) could have told you that. Not only did June and July come and go, but apparently, those in charge put their entire eggs into the Zumbimendi basket. The same Zubimendi who previously rejected Barcelona, Bayern and Arsenal -- three clubs able to provide a higher wage than Liverpool. Reports are there is no plan B at the position, largely due to time remaining before the window closes. Amateur hour at its finest...

And don't forget how van Dijk, Salah and TAA are entering their final year under contract. It's possible each leave next summer on a free.

Slot's job was always going to be hard, simply because he's come in after Klopp. But it's now made even more difficult without backing. One can only kick a can down the road for so long.

The spin Liverpool is putting out today is vomit inducing:

Read on Twitter

If I follow, the club is expecting to lose one, two or all of van Dijk, Salah and TAA. In doing so, they will save this year's transfer kitty for next year to replace them.

Read on Twitter

A tune heard all too often as a LFC fan. We were fortunate to have Klopp. That's quite the gamble to put that on Slot. More importantly, why even go after Zubimendi if the club feels Gravenberch, Jones and Nyoni, a teenager, can solve the DM position.

Ready for tmrw. Not sure zero signings was a good idea. WIth the big contracts we have ending next season to think about, I think it was bad business to do nothing. Prob would have been better to have moved a guy or two (gotten some $$$) and brought in new players, to ease the transition. I assume we're gonna get a good look at some younger players this year. I thought some of those guys did amazing during the dec-jan-feb months when we had guys out with injuries, so maybe it works for the best?

Interested to see how we look with a new coach.

Dunno...zero signings, and the BS stuff coming out about it already has me feeling like this is gonna be rough. Excited...but very worried about all this. As you stated...we're a shambles at the moment....not the vibe you should be getting with a new coach about to start his time here. Usually its candy and unicorns at the start.

Nice win. Sadly I couldn't catch the game, and so settled for highlights. Hopefully I can watch this evening.

Team looked more or less the same from what I could see....except I noticed several long passes slotted down the middle, which is different...as we've almost exclusively passed out to our wings. Noticed that, and it seemed to be effective. But it was just highlights. Maybe that's just what Ipswich was giving us...nothing more. But since I did notice it in my small highlight sample size...I assume there was more of it. But on the whole....things seemed alot like last year. Prob a good idea not to make drastic changes with a team built for this style.

Always nice to get a clean sheet. Didn't seem like Allison had to do anything spectacular today either. 3 points...we move on.

James Milner set a new Premier League record on Saturday as he took to the pitch against Everton at Goodison Park. The former Liverpool midfielder (and left-back, actually) became the first player to feature in 23 Premier League seasons.

Congrats to Milner! I'm a huge fan of his.

So far so good. Definitely warming up to Slot. He's made minor changes at most...and I think that was very smart. Seems to know what he's doing, seems to get on fine with the team, and he seems to understand he's inherited a beautifully running sports car, and has the intelligence to let it keep purring.

Will need SOMETHING for a title challenge though....so let's see how things are come Feb. As of now though....pretty happy.

Yeah some good stuff in possession. A little less frantic. Not sold on Gravenberch-Mac Allister as the duo in midfield, but so far so good. Not a ton of upgrades available in the market.
It's time for 5 refs.

You cannot tell me that there's not a single player out there who wouldn't improve this Liverpool starting XI. Note this is the same squad that finished third a year ago.

Sure, let's go buy Rodri and Rice.

Those are the only two who can be improvements on Endo?

Is the marginal improvement worth the price? Should we limit minutes for Gravenberch or Bajectic to develop, potentially, into long-term solutions in the position or should we buy Barella or Koopmeiners (assuming either is actually available)? Should we spend $50m on someone who improves the midfield if that means we can't offer Trent the contract he wants and he walks for free to Madrid next year?

Gravenberch wasn't exactly a clean bill of health last season. And it sounds as if the club wants to loan Bajectic (RB Salzburg the rumor). I have always looked at Endo as a stop gap considering his age.

Maybe a throwaway comment but Rog on Men in Blazers podcast said that Salah’s greatest legacy at Liverpool may be that after his arrival, hate crimes in the area dropped by 16%.

Oy what about the other 80%?

Sounds like we signed that Goalie. I'm not gonna try and remember the name. Good to see we actually got a signing....but A) he doesn't come till next year, and B) Aren't we pretty good at Goalie right now? Seems like a weird deal to get done. I guess at least SOMETHING happened. Was starting to wonder.

Agree....we need to see them play some stiffer competition (no offense to Ip and Brent).

Mamardashvili. Wouldn't be surprised if we sell both Alisson and Kelleher before next season to fund other transfers.
