I was surprised by how bad City looked, it was Southampton level defending in 3 of the goals and Arsenal is so negative that they have zero creativity in their offensive system other than waiting for 50 m counter attacks.

I'm not sure Nottingham Forest will not get 2nd place soon. Arsenal is quality defence but Nwaneri, the 17 year old is the only attacking player who showed real individual quality, the ability to attack defenders. He is probably the only one in their who would get minutes in Liverpool's attack.....

Honestly, I'm not that surprised. Remember that this terrible Spurs team beat them 4-0 in their backyard. We carved through them like butter.

The midfield is where they need to focus their efforts. For as good as they have been historically, De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Gundogan are either past it, or injuries caught up. For City to return to their former dominance, if that's even possible at this point in time, they need to rejuvenate the midfield and put some new hungry pieces around Rodri when he returns. I was surprised that they bought Khusanov and Marmoush, a defender and a forward. Good players, but I wouldn't describe those positions as top priority. Maybe the opportunities weren't there in the midfielder market.

Manchester United almost turned another corner. After winning their last three games -- Rangers (Europa), Fulham (PL) and Steaua Bucharest (Europa) -- Crystal Palace was just too much for the Red Devils.

I don't believe they've won two consecutive PL games in a row yet.

we're paying for our stupidity in relying on weak forwards and have been a little unlucky with the Odegaard and Saka injuries but also stupid because we had no contingencies in place. Ethan breaking out solves one and we need another creative midfielder so lesson the burden on Martin. Was stupid to have two serious points of failure if they're out. Hopefully Arteta and the club fix that mistake in squad building.

When Havertz missed that goal, the announcers on the US broadcasts were talking about them trying to acquire Watkins.

That missed gimme didn't matter as City just fell apart in the second half.

If those teens who've been getting playing time in recent matches turn into very good players, they may not need to make big transfers.

As for City, don't they supposedly have talent stashed at all those other clubs owned by the same owners? Or for that matter, they had so much talent that they let Palmer go to Chelsea just a couple of seasons ago.

So VAR thinks it only got 13 calls wrong so far this season? :noway:

There have been 13 video assistant referee (VAR) mistakes in the Premier League so far this season - down from 20 at the same point last term - say league bosses.

Four incorrect VAR interventions and nine missed interventions from the first 23 rounds of games have been found by the competition's Key Match Incidents (KMI) panel.

The Premier League declined to list the nine missed interventions - and whether that includes the Lewis-Skelly red card. It did outline the four errors to media.

United get through in the FA Cup against Leicester with a last minute Maguire goal from a set piece that was miles offside.

Shambles from the officials.

We'll take it. I'll take any win. Cheating or not at this point

It's these sort of goals, which historically have gone Manchester United's way, as to why it's ridiculous folks say they want rid of VAR. As frustrating as it can be, that goal would have been ruled out.

Still cannot believe the PL has not installed semi-automated offside. Was supposed to be ready to go late August or early September 2024.

yeah, absolutely shambolic work by linesman, I think he got confused as at least 4 of United players were offside and bunch of others were cutting into the box as well so he must have missed which one was heading the ball. Lucky lucky ugly win for Man U.

My favorite part is we've been dying for a LB for two years and Dalot has been **** on the left. We sign a LB and then have him play on the right.

What a goal from Leyton Orient, Donley whacked one from 40 yards out. Shame it’s counted as an own goal cause it came off Ortegas backside.

And lol wtf. I had a buddy come over during the end of the United game so I didn't see how offside Maguire was. That was absurd. How do you miss that? All the United guys were off, just throw the flag up.

From Amorian. It seems it is where Dorgu has played the most this yesr and just to make him comfortable.

However i never want to see Dalot play LWB, ever again. He needs to be on the right or transfered out.

Simon Stone article from yesterday. Very odd from Pep as he anticipates a sentence.

No-one has stated when a decision will be reached, although it was widely expected to be in the first quarter of 2025.

Guardiola confirmed this as he responded to a question about whether City's record £180m investment in the transfer market during the winter window was triggered by the possibility of City being hit by a transfer ban.

"In one month, I think there will be a verdict and a sentence," he said. "After that, we will see my opinion of what happened so far."

City brought in four new players over the past month.

Uzbekistan defender Abdoukodir Khusanov joined from French club Lens for £33.6m on 20 January.

Teenage Brazilian Vitor Reis was confirmed the following day in a £29.6m move from Palmeiras.

City completed the £63m signing of Egypt forward Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt on 23 January.

They ended their winter recruitment campaign by paying £50m to Porto for Spain Under-21 midfielder Nico Gonzales.

It was the second-biggest spend in the mid-season window by a Premier League club, behind Chelsea's £275m splurge in 2023, and was more than the rest of England's top flight spent between them.

Guardiola denied there was any more to it than merely strengthening a squad that has struggled badly compared to previous seasons.
