Can we please take the team in Group G that gets 4 pts(Maybe Ghana though Portugal could very well win too) that may not end up qualifying and throw them in instead of Greece.

Greece scored 2 goals and are moving on...one on a penalty kick, the other on a botched defensive play.

You CANNOT be that clumsy in the penalty box. That's a penalty 10/10 times.

He clipped the defender on the back swing but that's not a foul, just incidental contact. Kicking the ground is what took him down.

Also, how bout the ref just adding 40 seconds after the penalty when the lead up to the penalty was about a minute and the celebration was about another minute.

Agreed, that was definitely a wrong decision by the ref.

I'd agree that it was just an incidental contact if Sio's foot was already set, but he was stretching his leg and unfortunately the result was a trip.

That's on Samaras for winding the kick the way he did, that's fair play for the defender to be in the vicinity as long as nothing purposely or inherent was done to stop the kick which wasn't the case.

It is a brutal call. At worst, at worst give Greece the corner if the ball goes out of bounds. You can't just reward a team a penalty kick on such a soft call like that with so little time left to move on or not.

The refs interfered in this game's ending, nobody comes to see the ref.

Yup, seemed like a really quick whistle to end the game.

If I was the Ivory Coast I would be just as upset about that. They should have been given the chance to respond.

urs meier, a former swiss fifa referee called it a foul on german tv. myself i think, there was a contact, but i hate that the game was decided by this penalty. wish ivory cost had advanced. now we get to see boring greece lose in the next round.

The defender tangles up the shooter's leg. Brutal but justifiable PK. Sio is an idiot for not positioning himself better.

What did the defender do wrong? He didn't impede him, he was behind him to put pressure on Samaras.

It is the equivalent of kicking your leg out on a 3 pt play and catching the defender when he's in the air trying to contest the shot. That is and will always be something that rightfully should be frowned upon in basketball.
