I'd have to see the first one again but pretty much a coin flip for me.

Watching the ITV stream, thought McCoist called it pretty fair. Obviously not a clear-cut penalty, but Ronaldo got there first, the defender took a bad angle and made just enough contact to entice the ref. They're still debating it now after 10 replays. Calling that sht in real time is impossible.

I think the ref realized he screwed up by calling that soft foul on Rolando so he tried to compensate by awarding the penalty to Ronaldo. Both were soft.
