The flight back was probably the best feeling the team's had since '04:

About the "Hand of the Baguette God," I don't understand the outrage. Henry's touch was intentional, but it was the referee who should have seen it. I don't blame him as a player for trying to make something happen. Like in basketball, if the ref doesn't see the foul, it's not a foul. And all this crap about unsportsmanlike behavior, it's all nonsense. To quote Herm Edwards, you play to win the game! YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!
First the federal government borrowed money; then gave the money to Bank of America; then I borrowed some of that money from Bank of America and gave it to the federal government; then the federal government gave the money back to Bank of America.

Re: 2010 World Cup Qualifying Discussion
I'm sick of people saying Henry cheated. He didn't cheat. Unless you count every single foul cheating. Every hand ball cheating. Every ball kicked out of bounds cheating. All those things are part of the game. If the ref misses it then too bad. It's not the players' fault.

I'm sick of people saying Handry didn't cheat.
The guy is a cheat and that play will stay with him for the rest of his life.

Smart question, but what's your point?
Why don't you start a new topic?
How about a Henry fan club?

The point is that it's not cheating. The ref just missed the call.

Free Swedish meatballs for life for the ref. from Blatter & FIFA (The ref was from Sverige, the adopted country of Zlatan)
What about the assistant refs? They need new reading glasses!
Can we talk about the North Korean team now?

Re: 2010 World Cup Qualifying Discussion
I say it is cheating because FIFA wanted to see big nations make the World Cup so I'm sure the ref was told to be light on the French but be hard on the Irish.
If anyone watch the Bosnia vs. Portugal match in Zenica the ref was completely blind when Bosnia had the ball. And he called so many fouls on us and we couldn't get any foul it was just crazy!

My opinion of him as a soccer player didn't change one bit. I don't think he's to blame.
It's just sad that there can't be a replay

Just a little vid about the poor victims who clearly have never done anything wrong.

They also cheat. Everyone cheats, it sucks, but it's part of the game. The only difference is that Henry did it in a high profile game and it's getting blown way out of proportion, like we haven't seen a handball since Maradona.

Re: 2010 World Cup Qualifying Discussion
At least Maradona redeemed himself in that match. Arguably the best goal of all time.
Anyhow i dont have much of an opinion on this matter, it seems to me that the refs was probably biased towards the bigger nation, France...
Im still disappointed in Russia losing their playoff to Slovenia via away goals...Russia has some nice players, it's sad that Arshavin wont be playing in the world cup, or zhirkov for that matter.

CHEATER!
The ref missed the hand ball. If you say that Henry is a cheater because of a hand ball, then you have to call every player a cheater for kicking the ball out of bounds. One is not any more cheating than the other.

this. whether it was intentional or not, anybody who played soccer or just about any sport knows that you play on until refs blows the whistle. this isn't any different than a player who continues on with the gameplay even though he is offside and certainly not as despicable as players who dive in penalty box. this is just another blown call that wouldn't have been such an issue if it wasn't for the magnitude of the game.
funny enough most who criticize Henry as a cheater, cheer(ed) for the likes of C.Ronaldo, Eduardo, Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard in EPL.

Re: 2010 World Cup Qualifying Discussion
Those guys are some of the worst divers on the pitch but they are also the ones that got kicked around the most. Ronaldo was describing Spanish football as the best move for his career longevity compared to the British game recently.
Still.. none of them have ever blatantly hand balled 1 feet in front of a goal and won a game of that magnitude, which is why Henry is getting criticized for this.

Re: 2010 World Cup Qualifying Discussion
every soccer player gets kicked around, hardly an excuse to cheat which is what diving is--attempting to get unfair advantage by duping refs into giving penalty. 70s italian football was bloodbath, but didn't have nearly as many divers as today's football, particularly today's EPL.
there is no difference between blatantly diving and blatant handball, in fact Henry even had to make a play after gaining possession, penalty takers have about 90 percent success rate of scoring. as for the magnitude of the game, United's own Micheal Owen cheated on the actual World Cups not once but twice, among many other examples.
