I just hope its not for a couple years. I think this squad is a piece or two away from making some noise.

Hey....btw...Durant sure is kicking *** and taking names. Impressive. I'm pretty impressed with Westbrook too. He's pulling crazy numbers. Fun stuff in the NBA so far.

My Lakers are losing...but we're hanging in there. Even that 17-point loss to OKC was actually a 4-point game with about 3:45 to go in the 4th....we just collapsed. Young guys learning the ropes. We'll get there.

Yeah, I saw tonight's game vs. Portland. Its weird because the longtime Sonic's play by play guy is now in Portland (Kevin Calabro). He's one of the best in the business.

Good article on Soccernet about Klopp, and what he's done with the signings over the last few years considered busts.

espnfc.us/club/liverpool/364/blog/post/2988005/jurgen-klopp-transforming-the-fortunes-of-liverpool-both-on-and-off-the-pitch

One thing I do take issue with is the last paragraph though:

"What is clear is that there are a number of people at Anfield, both on the playing staff and in the scouting department, who should be thanking their lucky stars that Klopp arrived when he did, as he's completely transformed their fortunes as well as the club as a whole."

I really don't like this "counting eggs before they hatched" thing. I'm not saying we're not looking good. I'm not saying the future doesnt look bright. But let's be analytical here. We finished 7th under him last season (not all his year...not all his players. I totally get it, but we did finish 7th...no Europe). And this season, we have no trophies, and no Europe as of yet, right?

The guy is doing GREAT...we look and are playing much much better. This isn't a knock. But "completely transformed the fortunes of the club as a whole"? That's a little half-baked as of yet.

Damn this 24-news.

I do find it funny that all the players who are doing well are because of him, meanwhile everyone NOT doing well is a 'lost cause'.

I know it sounds like I don't like Klopp sometimes....let me just set the record straight. I LOVE the guy (as a coach). I think we look 50X better now. The team is fun to watch...we're beating good teams, and I do think alot of prior signings look much much better under him. I literally would not trade Klopp for ANY other coach. I truly mean that. There's not a coach out there I'd trade.

BUT....he's not Jesus, ok. Let's not credit him with titles, until we actually have a few. And I'm sorry....but we had Europe under all our other coaches too (at least any that lasted)....so while I think there's plenty to be excited about....getting a spot in the Champions League was practically a GIVEN until just 10-12 years ago. I don't wanna start flinging beautiful yarns about "culture changes" until I start seeing Liverpool go sign HUGE free-agents, or start seeing guys stay here, instead of going to the Madrids and Chelsea's of the world....all I will give the guy, is that we're on the right track.

Assuming we get top-4 (total assumption, btw. We haven't even got that far yet) and into the Champions League.....well that's just par for the course, as far as this fan is concerned. "He did his job" would be my exact feeling about it. Any coach who can't get us into the Champions league should be fired (And I don't mean EVERY year....but 2 out of 3 maybe). I know we have been heading downhill for a while now. It seems that ANY sort of spot in Europe was ok to some. I fully understand that Rome wasn't built in a day. I'm perfectly happy giving Klopp a couple years to get things righted, and have us back in the Champions league. But thats EXACTLY MY POINT! We're not there yet at all....so I just find it funny when I hear things like "he's a success" or he's "turned the fortunes around". Those statements both speak of past deeds. We have 7th place. It's cruel to throw that on him, I know....but factually that's all we have so far, right? I don't know of any "lookin' damn good so far" title....does anyone else?

Man....I hate these rumours. It makes my blood-levels skyrocket. We have Coutinho under contract till 2020. We should just tell everyone to go get knotted.

I would agree for the most part. But, its hard not to be a little giddy about where it appears the club is headed. Who knows, this just might be our year! You could really make a case that missing out on Europe was a blessing in disguise. We shall see...

Exactly. See, I think you and I are in the same place. I'm totally excited. I wrote that post just a couple days ago..I think this team CAN make a push at the title. I think Klopp is doing a great job.

Take Jerry West at Golden State. Jerry West "has changed the culture" of that team. He isn't 'doing a good job'...he's "done a good job". You see what I mean? They just signed one of the top players in the World. They have a title. They were in game 7 last year. It's title or bust. Guys are flocking to be on that team. Expectations are completely different now. So are results.

You can look at Jerry West and what he has accomplished, and if he retired tomorrow, you'd say "he was a success. He totally changed the culture of this team."

Klopp is more like Luke here in LA. There's buzz....we're growing. Things are looking much much better. There's a ton to be excited about. But I wouldn't credit Luke with anything yet. Go get me a title.....get me a deep playoff run...then we'll talk.

I do think missing Europe was prob good for us....as far as a League title is concerned. We just gotta go see it through.

But yeah man.....there's definitely a ton to be excited about. We're clearly playing better than we had in a while. I am not knocking Klopp at all. I just don't consider him a success until we have a title. A few runs in the Champions league will be nice, and an upgrade from the last couple coaches....but we were making deep-deep runs in the Champions league on a yearly basis just a decade ago. That's "acceptable" for me.....but nothing special. We fire the coaches that can't at least give us that.

True. I see soccer & basketball as comparing apples to oranges. A great coach in basketball isn't going to win without talent. A coach is more dependent on superstars (Phil had MJ, Shaq, Kobe). Where as in soccer, a great coach can take a good team & make it great.

I agree....I'm just making an analogy based on whatever your 'zone of responsibility' in your career is...you could say that Jerry west "has done" what he was supposed to do....whereas you would say Klopp "hopefully will" do what he is supposed to do.

J-west has something BUILT. He could walk away tmrw....and there's a list of great things DONE.
Klopp could walk away tmrw....and it would be a half-baked team, that looks very promising. It bothers me when these articles use the words "changed" (past tense) as apposed to 'changing'.

It's probably semantics to most people, I'm sure....but I think there's an important distinction. "Cash in hand" Is the phrase I'm talking about. I'll give Klopp alot of support....but I feel like we all need to hold the praise until there's a title in our hand. Until there's cash in my hand....I ain't been paid.
