He's certainly been a good player for them over the last 18 months, but agree that he may cost too much for what he'll bring

According to David Ornstein, Liverpool is finally ready to enter the transfer market, targeting a DM outside the PL, though no name was given.

UPDATE: Martin Zubimendi is said target, per Joyce and Ornstein.

Sounding promising, considering the DM should have been the priority after last summer's Caicedo and Lavia debacles.

£65m does seem like a huge overpay, I think some of that goes to Liverpool because of a sell-on fee too. Hope he's worth it.

Not convinced but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

With the PL season begining next week, Liverpool's sell-to-buy strategy remains as the club has opted to focus on outgoings:

Manchester united strikes again. 2 more in.

Also best of luck to AWB. Great defender but doesn't fit Manchesters new playing style.

It'll be interesting to see how De Ligt does. At Ajax, he was considered the "next big thing," however, things never really materialized at either Juve or Bayern. In fact, I was surprised to see Dier playing ahead of him.

Ten Hag continues to go back to his Dutch well.

Ange seemed to be all in for him too, so must meet the profile of striker he's wanting.

I think he will do fine. Past Captain and is like only 24. As long as he stays healthy, should compete for starting role.

So Felix, Nkunku and Palmer battling for one/maybe two positions lol. All while Chelsea still want/need an out and out striker.

Good comparison!

How do you think Maximilian Beier would do in the premier league? He’s another guy we’ve been linked with recently

I haven’t seen enough of Villa to accurately comment whether he fits your squad.
Beier is a really good talent. Shame he plays for a soulless club like Hoffenheim.
He is still young, though, so not sure how much time he is going to need to adjust to a new country.
I think currently he would be best suited for a team that is a bit more focused on counter attacks.

You could sign Max Moerstedt, too.
He is 3 years younger than Beier.
Hoffenheim won the German U19 championship in dominant fashion last season. He is going to end up a very good player, too, 3-4 years down the road.

Sorry for the late reply! I’ve been away but thank you for the insight.

It looks like we have missed out on Beier as he’s going to Dortmund.

I’ll have a look at Moerstedt though, that’s the type of signing I’d like Villa to do.

Zubimendi has decided to remain at Real Sociedad. Second year in a row where Liverpool is left with egg on its face -- Caicedo last summer.

This is has to be one of the lowest points I've felt about the club. It's clear something is amiss. Van Dijk, Salah and TAA haven't received an extension despite one year remaining for the three. Another year where there's no replacement for Fabinho -- journalists reporting LFC have no plans to target another player in the position. Talk about taking the air out right as the new season is about to begin...

It's baffling. Liverpool's not in any danger of financial issues, yet, not a single incoming to improve the starting XI. Wonder what the new manager, Slot, honestly feels about this approach.

Alvarez to Atletico Madrid.

Manchester City have sold Julián Álvarez to Atlético Madrid in a deal worth €95m (£81.5m), with the Argentina World Cup-winner becoming the Premier League champions’ record sale. The La Liga club will pay an initial £64.4m for the striker, with a further £17.1m in potential add-ons based on numerous clauses.

Álvarez, who scored 36 goals in 103 appearances for City, becomes the second-most expensive signing in Atlético’s history, after João Félix, who is of interest to Aston Villa and Chelsea. Álvarez scored 19 goals as City won the league for the fourth season in a row under Pep Guardiola.

The sale of Álvarez, used primarily as backup to Erling Haaland last season, represents a significant piece of business for City, with the club earning a huge profit on the £14m they paid River Plate in January 2022.

I didn't think Atletico were such big buyers in the transfer market.

And Alvarez has done great for City and Argentina but is he great or have been on loaded teams?

Maybe youth justifies the big fee?

And now Gallagher's on his way back too, after the Omorodion deal already broke down.

What on earth is going on between Atleti and Chelsea?

De Ligt and Mazraoui in at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag thinks getting his 2019 team wil help him.
