big win for Real who were barely above the relegation zone.
Leverkusen, Villa, and Brest all earned their 13th points, equaling Inter who started the day 2nd in the standings

Are they going to have some kind of knockout in this new format or the club with the most points at the end is champion like the domestic league format?

edit: Lookman makes it 2-3 with another good finish.

Hope to see Retegui come on and make it 3-3
edit: almost

I didn't see the whole game, but Atalanta looked to certainly have enough opportunities to get something out of the game.

City lose again.

They play PSG next, with City sitting 22nd and PSG sitting 25th. If result is not a draw, the losing team could really struggle to get into the next phase

Great goal from McKennie last night vs City. Guy is perhaps the most undervalued midfielder in all of football. Bonus USA points for his goal being assisted by Tim Weah.

Was nice to finally get a win after a string of draws. Helps that Vlahovic is back...he didn't look too sharp but still scored one.

Atletico, forever the masters of the dark arts. Down to 10 men, 1-0 down and getting dominated by Leverkusen... only to turn the game around with an Alvarez brace.

I was wondering why the game went to penalties after seeing the score.

I haven't been watching but I saw 4-2 Benefica, then 4-3, 4-4 and ends 4-5.

This is within a 25-minute span!

Big difference in shots and shots on goal, sounds like Barca really put an all-out assault to close the deficit and go on top.

The number of ridiculous errors (from both teams) leading to goals in this game has to be near a Champions League record.

I don't enjoy 4-5 when it is too many mistakes, such a poor defending. It wasn't exactly Messi going through prime Manchester United or Ronaldinho vs Real 2006. It is fool's gold. The Barcelona goalie crashing Vs Balde was comical.

I enjoyed more Liverpool vs Lille, a smaller team trying to play their passing style and making mistakes against a better team. Still didn't lose big and Liverpool was calm, controlled fotboll before the red card.

Entertaining 1st half in Paris. Mendes might wish his first name was Knee-no given the narrowest of offsides for Hakimi's chalked-off opener.

PSG turn it around! City seem to have been infected by United's inability to hold leads. Something in the water in Manchester?

If Manchester City do not beat Club Brugge next week, they're out of the CL... :o

De Bruyne, Gündogan, Silva all looked shadows of themselves. Interesting during this winter spending spree, Pep has decided to reinforce his center back and forward positions and not midfield.

Sad day for Sporting. 2-1 loss with an offering for the 2nd goal. We'll bounce back in the next one tough

Crazy match day in CL today. I wish they had 10 games as with 8 it’s too little to differentiate a league of 36 teams

Fantastic result for Villa today, especially considering we've got one fit CB and the majority of the bench hadn't played a game of senior football.

Love the last day fixtures and say what you want about the new format, but it has made the early stages MUCH more exciting. Who'd have thought Real, Bayern, PSG and City would all be out of the Top 8

I definitely prefer this format over the old one
