This is a great game so far, but the Russian central defenders are really outmatched here.

2-0!! DAVID VILLA!!

Good to see that guy get some love. Torres is great, but Villa is one of the most underrated strikers IMHO.

Goalfest!!! Poor showing by Russia, who finally tried to take advantage of their height in towards the end. The midfield for Spain was fun to watch.

I don't think Spain can win it all with that kind of defence.

Spain's midfield and Villa were excellent.

Defenders looked shaky at the end there.

Villa just quadrupled his price, great performance. Spain obviously have a very talented team but because of shaky defense and their coach, i am pessimistic for them to win it all.

Ibrahimovic took a shot to the ding dong. Larson trying to hard to be the setup man, he could have taken two good shot opportunities.

Great second goal - that guy scored on pure guts against 2 greek defenders who tried to gangbang him.

lmao.

well deserved win by Swedes, hopefully this result will prevent Greece from taking football three quarters of a century back.

I guess betting on Russia to win it all wasn't such a bright idea after all...

I sort of already answered why in my original post, but I'll elaborate;

Lagerback is a dead-beat, unemotional, dry, boring coach who makes his team play defense and no offense, as soon as they score a goal. I can't count how many times that has come back to haunt the Swedish national team. Go back and watch all their games since he became a coach, and you'll see what I mean.

In my opinion, if you score a goal, you keep playing the way that got you that goal, in order to extend the lead and improve your goal differential stats, get some burn for the bench players, keep your starters out of harms way etc. His philosophy is to "protect" the lead by playing "cautiously", which of course leads to a lot of losses in games where Sweden started off strong and aggressive and got the lead.

These guys can really play. Too bad his piss-poor tactics won't allow them to. I was worried as hell today when they got the lead. Fortunately, they seemed to remain surprisingly assertive.

If Sweden gets a lead on Spain or any other good team, watch him make his team hide under the covers and lose the game.

j-far,

Thanks for the welcome, buddy.

I like Podolski's second much better.

Xavi's attempt before Fabregas' goal would have been another good one.
