I'm happy we're through 8-) On the other it's sad and hard for Japan to go out like this. If it was any other team (almost any) I'd be happy but I'm sad for Japan, they gave everything.

This is a lesson for them and everyone about penalties, put your laces through them and go for the corners. I hate these casual penalties players are taking these days.

Anyway unlucky for Japan they’ve done well this tournament in my opinion just a **** way to lose.

For sure. I think this is your best chance to hit a PK in today's game.

Trying to pass it into the lower corner leaves the possibility that the keeper just falls to a side and gets it.

If you lace that chit, the keeper can guess right but it can still go past him. Lot of the time it's just too much power and goes through the hands. Rr they didn't get the elevation right.

I used to like PKs from Van Persie or Steven Gerrard.

I remember my AYSO coach telling me that there is only one way to shoot a PK....with power to either bottom corner.

Amazes me at how little we see that

Also, everytime I see PKs, I miss the MLS shootouts...those were a lot more entertaining while providing the same amount of "unworthy" winners

I hate most of these players attitude towards penalties. Van Persie was so good at them, another honourable mentioned even if his career fell off is Balotelli. He was so good at penalties I think he’s only missed a couple of them.

lol, how did I forget him. :)

The most annoying PKs was the one from Lewandowski yesterday. I know it was his last PK for Poland basically. But I was happy he missed the first try. And was pissed when he was gifted a second chance because France ran up too soon. He did the hesitation move again and a kick with no power.

Just fvkin kick the hell out of the ball please. You are like 12 yards away. 95% of the time, the keeper just falls to their left or right. They ain't touching anything above 6 feet.

Unfortunate ending for Japan. Croatia was biding their time for the shootout after getting the tie, it seems like. Their keeper looked far bigger at the line. Had to check. Both keepers are the same height. Maybe had more to do with the shots. Japanese players looked like they were aiming for the corners and took power off infavour of accuracy.

Not the best type of win but it counts and onward.

Yeah, I think it was one of the former England PKs that said he could not even save Balotelli's penalties during practice. And lot of the time, he would tell him where he was kicking it lol.

Same here when I used to play I was always instructed to hit with power and either corner. My coach used to HATE when we tried to chip the keeper from them or tried to place the penalties.

That Perisic header was brilliant  . This is a continuation from the last WC in Russia where Croatia reached the finals by playing ET/penalties all the way to the finals. Hopefully we can do that again and win in the finals this time 8-) :D

lol, I can't remember which legendary player it was. I think it was Johan Cruyff. They would do the shootouts where a player would start from the midfield line and go 1 on 1 with the keeper. Basically, like hockey.

Anyways, he said that was the most fun thing about the American's soccer league. He loved it.

This was before the MLS though. This was way back in the NASL.

I think they stopped doing this because of injuries.

Depends how you look at it.

Game goes 120 minutes with no winner. It has to end some time. And as players get more tired, the game will drag on more.

It will change the game too much, but a solution could be more subs. Literally, allow each team to use as much subs as possible until there's a winner lol.

In the end though, PKs does measure some things. The keepers skills. And composure from the field players.

And it still measures fitness to an extent. Tiredness can make you lean back more on your kicks, putting the ball over the goal. Or it can just make you kick a ball weakly in general.
