I expected Arsenal Fulham to be a fun game to watch and take my mind off the semi final later. But it has been boring so far.

We should've scored in the opening 20 minutes. Two goals disallowed for a minimal margin and then concede a very very soft pen.
Losing Laca is the worst thing though. He's instrumental in the build up play Arteta wants.

Fulham conceding a late equaliser sums up their season as well.

The second offside wasn't marginal  but Arsenal were the better team for sure. Still wasn't an interesting game for the neutral though.

For Arsenal it's all about the Europa league isn't it?

Fulham must be kicking themselves. Having said that they deserve to go down playing like that. amazing how they beat us and Liverpool when you see them today.

And what about Loftus Cheek? Can't even get into the starting line up. what has happened to him?

It's amazing.

The good point is that they may be the team who stands between you and the CL in the EL final. That's good news isn't it?

It gives us a bigger chance indeed.
That semi-final between Roma and Man Utd will be a borefest btw.

I'm surprised it took so long for Tarkowski to get a card. We need some more service to the greyhounds from the middle of the park, but we're putting balls into the net. Looking more and more like United should. With some of the roster improvements that many have mentioned, should really be able to make some noise.

Didn't think Levy would want to pay that big stack of money.
Good decision.

In Jose's defense, who would have thought playing with 7 defenders would result in inconsistent offense?

So he's had one or two transfer periods since he took over?

Did Levy let him spend or keep him on a short leash?

Possibly but he's done better than Arteta.

I think the timing is poor - 6 days before a cup final.

And he got them into the superleague :D

I just really hope these greedy selfish owners get their league setup quickly and then they can swap managers amongst themselves in their own league.

Levy doesn't know the meaning of the word "spend".

I don't have the real stat, but in 2019 and 2020 Levy did invest considerably. However, that was after 15 months with 1 transfer in and about 8 out. Answering the original question, Levy let him spend - to a point. We aren't Man U so he had to choose between, say, a high quality backup striker + RB depth OR a high quality starting CB. I think that's pretty reasonable and should have left Jose with enough to finish in a europa spot.

The squad isn't good enough, but Jose playing 7 defenders against subpar competition was maddening. We should replace 3/4 of the back line and pray Reggy doesn't trigger his buyback clause.

I mean did they try to get a replacement for Eriksen?

It seemed for a stretch that the only way they were scoring was on the counter, with a long through ball to Kane or Son.

Otherwise it was relatively easy for clubs to shut them down.

Is there any point to this match this evening?

Liverpool don't need to win to get into Europe. They've decided the future. Why are we bothering?

Tanguy is much better now than Eriksen was when he left, especially considering how bad Christian was his final 2 years with us. Including a complete phoning in during his last half season.

It's less about 'did we replace X' and more about 'did we improve on X.' Overall the answer there is no or we have such a backlog of things to fix from our 15 months with one transfer that we really need to spend 2x of what we did to catch back up with the real top 4.

Using Tanguy as an example again, he's a replacement for Eriksen AND Moussa when really he's more of a Moussa. With Reguilon he's an improvement over Rose, but really more of a like for like swap for Prime Kyle Walker who we let go years ago. Know they play different positions but that's been the issue IMO. We improve in one area at the expense of another. So we don't actually get better, we just shift the problem elsewhere.

That's one of the biggest issues. The Prem would be relegated to a training tournament. Why would you even bother playing for top-4 anymore? The product would be ruined. As a Liverpool fan with Prem as the biggest tournament, i'm all in for kicking out all 6 teams in the break out league out of the league system, if the 'super-league' really comes in place next season. I'd rather see Leeds vs Wolves fight for 7th and CHL than Liverpool playing Chelsea for 4th places. What's the point even if there's nothing to play for?

Praying that this doesn't come into existence.

The champion's league ought to go back to being a knockout tournament between league champions. It won't because greedy people run the teams and the sport. It's amazing that Spurs have been a regular in the champion's league when they haven't won a title since 1961.
