Welbeck, Kane

I dunno if I'm blanking on anyone more deserving at the moment, but that's such a versatile combination of players that you can react to anything within the game without a change. No way around a pretty poor defensive unit though.

Barkley will definitely play through the middle, imo, Roy loves him. I'd love to see it, but I can't see Dier starting. Didn't he play Welbeck as a winger in the World Cup alongside Sturridge up top, Sterling in the middle and Rooney on the other flank? Obviously things will look different in these upcoming friendlies without Rooney, so I'm curious to see if he'll trot something out similar to your idea there.

I remember Rooney failing to help his full-back, and Baines got demolished by Darmian against Italy.

Apart from the players in the team at the top of the league you mean?

Milner is rubbish, Henderson hasn't shown any form and how long do we have to keep going with Sterling before people realise he really isn't much more than fast.

Bournemouth have been in good form, too. Only team that covers more ground than we do.

Definitely. They started the season well, got a draw against us and then had injuries to their best players.

Gradel is back now and Bournemouth have been playing very well.

I put it down for a score draw.

As a matter of style and fit, I don't think Vardy is going to lead to an improved starting unit in any combination. He may be more useful as a supersub. Drinkwater may be an upgrade over Henderson (whom I am not a huge fan of), but the truth is I haven't been paying close enough attention to him to say one way or the other. I also have doubts about how their success would translate to an international tournament.

Sterling is plenty more than fast - he is also just 21 - but I would understand if people feel there is too much creative pressure on him in my lineup.

I'm curious, what's your team?

I don't imagine he will pick anything close to the team I suggested once the tournament comes around.

It's a good thing you're not picking on England because you should probably wait for your country to score its first ever goal against them first.

So San Marino has scored more goals against England than Turkey.
Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, Kevin Garnett, Toni Kroos, Pep Guardiola, Ernst Happel, Joachim Löw.

Vardy and Kane would work well together. He terrifies defenders and sets up players well.

I think he'd be ideal for England setup. The problem with England is they think they are better than they are. they think they can play possession football. Against good teams they can't. They need to be able to play counter-attacking football and pressurise other teams defensively and no-one is better than Vardy at that. Drinkwater is the best English midfielder without question at the moment.

Sterling is young and fast. I'd play him as a counter attacking threat but he's poor defensively and he isn't really living up to his billing offensively. TBH Albrighton would be a better choice at wing. He's fast, slings a mean ball into the box, is tireless and a very good help defender. He was also a good wing back at the end of last season.

I'd probably have butland in goal too.
