11 vs. 10, up early, no real pressure from the opponent at all and you don't have to do much defensive work at all.

Mesut Özil these days doesn't even shine in these games, though. That miss alone in front of the goal.

I know I sound like a hater now after a 4-0 victory but it is like it is. It was the perfect game for them.

he had that nice backheel that helped set up the first goal and set up the pass to gotze that brought the corner for hummels goal. You expect what 3 assists and a goal from him each game??You're standards are ridiculous. Every german player was missing 100% chances yesterday.

I dont remember anyone who was alone in front of the goal and could ve either passed for an easy tap in or scored himself one on one vs. the keeper.

Özil needs to get rid of the "I want to prove my doubters wrong"-habit he has for years now.
If he did that he would be much more comfortable in front of the goal and dont feel pressured to make the goal himself when he can easily set up a better positioned player and of course finish with more confidence as well.

for sure , he's not the best at finishing but he had a solid game yesterday before and was influential before the red card. Save the criticism for him and kroos when they actually plays poor. Not missing a breakaway in a 4-0 game which happens to literally every player here and there.

red card to pepe
and 2 injuries for portugal

altidore, besler, both with hamstring injuries
beslers, didnt look as bad, but still needed to get subbed out
dempsey, broken nose ? didnt look good

i think usa can win or at least tie, vs portugal

a win gets usa to advance
a tie, could, on goal differential, get them to advance

Don't get me wrong. I'll be the first to applaud Kroos & Özil if they show up in an important game. Until then my view of them is set in stone, though.
I can attest Kroos a great game against Dortmund in the DFB Pokal final, though. That was the only time when he really proved me wrong this year. He was good against Arsenal as well, but only after Woj was sent off. So that doesn't count.

With Özil it's not even the fact that he misses so many golden opportunities but the fact that he misses golden opportunities and then very often disappears. It just looks like after a miss he doesn't have the self-confidence to work for another chance to correct his miss.
If you compare that with Robben for example. Robben has missed so many golden opportunities in his career. WC 2010, CL final 2012, Bundesliga 2012. He got booed from his own fans in Munich and still came back even stronger. His willingness to win stands out in every f*cking game. Whether it is against 3rd league opposition or when down by 3 goals in a CL semi final.
That's just something that's sorely missing in Özil or Kroos. If they had Robbens attitude the sky would be the limit for these two players. It just feels like these two are content being fellow runners in big games.

Higga wrote:Ghana may have controlled possession but they didn't really threaten the U.S. much. And you have to factor in Altidore and Dempsey both being injured(Dempsey could barely breathe with that busted nose and it's even worse in that humid Brazilian weather). If Altidore doesn't get hurt I bet the U.S. score a 2nd goal before half.

Gotta give props to Klinsman. I was upset with him when he didn't bring Donovan but the winning goal was sparked by two subs. Clearly the dude knows what he's doing.

Can't wait for Sunday. Portugal is beatable with Pepe out, but even a draw gives us a real good chance at advancing.

It's not like the U.S. was really threatening (at all) either. Ghana was in opposing territory for most of the game, and just seemed to play better in terms of taking care of the ball and creating shots. Ghana also had a projected starting striker (Waris) injured from the South Korea game last week. Kudos to the U.S. though; they found a way to win, and that's all that matters. 3 points in this game goes a long way with Germany and Portugal still left to play.

Makes me wish Turkey had qualified and been drawn to this group instead of portugal, then all of germany's B-teams would be there together

The result would be the same though since germany's a team cannot win anything either.

latest on the US injuries, no MRI results yet:

http://www.theguardian.com/football/201 ... ing-injury

Sounds like they are still optimistic on Jozy but as a sports fan watching players going down with hamstring injuries....Those can take several months to heal, so I'm not to optimistic. They flare up again and again and only seem to go away with MONTHS of rest, and even then could come back. The greatest and healthiest player and the finest athlete can be completely debilitated by a hamstring injury for an extended time.

Seems we have a broken nose and 2 bad hamstrings, one serious and one unsure with Matt Besler.

That's TOO MANY hamstring injuries in 1 game. I felt like I was watching my Green Bay Packers, which are always bitten by the hamstring injury bug.

I think it's time to add some YOGA instruction to the team, to add some FLEXIBILITY to those hamstrings and prevent more injuries.

It's not a completely foreign concept, some other athletes are doing it in various sports: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/1 ... 30154.html

and thankfully FINALLY, my team is doing SOMETHING about all those bad hammy's. Regardless of the team, I thought this was a pretty interesting look at Yoga and Flexibility and how 1 instructor sees it making a huge difference with her professional athletes: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/ ... 48921.html

I'd love to see that incorporated into our US Men's team. 2 Hammy's in 1 game IS VERY ALARMING in my book, it means we definitely too much tightness. These guys need more than just good stretching before a game, they need proper training for better flexibility. I think this is a young team, a lot of young bucks feel invincible and run around full speed without ever thinking about flexibility, it's the older guys who begin thinking about.

I hope these guys can recuperate fast enough and wouldn't it be great if Klinsmann showed up to practice with a yoga mat. HAHAHA.

As someone who has a real sister I'd much rather not give teams an articual win if they don't prove that they deserve it during the alotted game time. It's easily one of the most irrationally stupid things that Americans often say.

Yeah, we have no like for like replacement with Jozy out. Our style of play/talent level requires someone who can hold up the ball.

Still can't believe we have a good shot at going through, I honestly feel like I'm dreaming or something.

They were both huge omissions, which we don't need to discuss anymore. EJ just can't buy a break though this year.
