Re: Official Manchester United FC Thread
Trust Ruben. He is the right manager. But it will take time.
His system is good but United is such a mess it's impossible to turn it arround really fast.
Wings are absolutely needed and central midfielders. Also a striker who is mobile, hojlund is bad but not that bad, but he can't operate in Amorim's system.
I would say United definitely needs to let go Luke Shaw (too old, or have him just to be a locker room presence), Casemiro (he's not hungry and his hiring was wrong at all levels, I can't even believe a professional club made the decision to sign a guy who is almost retiring with 5 champions under his belt and thought he'd be hungry to play for a team out of the top 8 of England), Eriksen (he's finished to play at top level). I'd also let go Bruno Fernandes (he's excelent, he might have even been a guy who could win a ballon d'or in the right context) but he's getting old and United might need the money to revamp. They also owe it to him, since he spent a big portion of his career doing wonders for a club that plays terrible.
Dorgu, Amad, Mainoo, Yoro and call me crazy but Ugarte are the ones that have to be in for the rebuild.
I'd definitely pay attention to Diamonde, Hjumland and Gyokeres. They're the ones worth bringing in from Sporting, but at this point Gyokeres might be too expensive and too old. I'd bet a lot on the other two.
Amorim might need two more midfielders, a fast center back and if he needs wings... well, Quenda and Carreras seem to have their destiny sealed. So United already failed on the type of wings they could/should have tried to hire.
As for everyone else... Idk how many players Man Utd can actually sell. Their salaries are just too high and they lost any transfer value.
Garnacho definitely needs to grow into a man and start making better decisions but I wouldn't give on him just yet. He has the talent. Zirkzee... Idk what to think. He's been disapointing to say the least.
Pavlidis might be a good choice or Mora, but either might be too expensive. (Pavlidis a CF while Mora is more of an attacking midfielder, but both are very good players). Samu from Porto might be a good choice too for Amorim's system, but I still doubt his true value.

Re: Official Manchester United FC Thread
I honestly think this is what ManU needed for a long time. Hit rock bottom and rebuild. I do trust INEOS over the Glazers. We hired a coach who i think will work. We are cutting all the high salary players and all the garbage players. Our academy is strong and our transfers have been decent since last summer.
Next year will be a crappy year but if we get some new players and a top 5 finish. That will be amazing.

If Delap wants to be the guy on a top "name" club. He can make a name for himself. On Chelsea, he will get buried and then sold off again.oreon wrote:Wisky4life wrote:Cunha and Delap. Need some coupons to get a few more now.....Wisky4life wrote:With Champions League Money.....

Delap might not even come. Why would he choose us over Chelsea with CL. UTD is a mess, unless you are a boyhood fan you go to other teams if you have the option. There's no telling when or if UTD's decline will ever turn around

Not that I want Delap, but in his shoes why would I look at what Yanited have done with two other U23 striker signings in back to back summer windows and feel encouraged by that process.
Both have been torn down and berated by the fanbase as well.

I am shocked at how the majority of these MU fan channels support Amorim.
This belief in him isn't based on anything he's done since arriving at the club. Instead, it's pure "hopium." And if that's it, then say so. But don't spout excuse after excuse:
1. Club forced his hand with "now or never."
As if this gives him a Get Out of Jail Free card? Plenty of managers are hired mid-season. Some work out, others do not. Likewise, numerous managers are brought onboard before the season begins, giving them a pre-season. Some work out, others do not. Point being there is no guarantee.
2. Lacks his own players.
It's very rare a new manager takes over a successful team. And considering his favored formation, there's not many big club using 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-3.
3. He shouldn't change his style.
Good managers are able to adjust.
He, himself, is responsible for improving the team's play on the pitch. Other than his honesty, what has he actually done to convince you? The Red Devils were four points off 3rd when Ten Hag was sacked. Currently, the club sits 16th and lost in the EL final. Since February, Amorim has managed to secure 10 out of 42 points. Six of those points came from two wins against relegated teams (Ipswich Town and Leicester City).
But again, he will be the manager next season. Manchester United cannot afford to move on and hire a new one.

Well he came from my club and it was an unbelievable change he had with us. It's definitely the best period I've ever seen from my club.
I understand your concerns, and I understand that maybe he should have adjusted into playing another system, but I still believe with some new hirings he can do wonders for United. He's very capable in creating a strong relationship with his players, he usually learns fast from his mistakes and he actually plans and adapts well for matches.
I hope he can start next season and I think you might be surprised. Definitely rooting for the guy, he truly deserves to be successfull.
I actually don't dislike he believes his system, that's usually a good characteristic since most successfull managers don't abandon their system often.

I don't mean to nitpick, but Manchester United played Tottenham four times this season and lost all of them. And this is to a club that currently holds the 17th spot in the PL. Simply put, Amorim got the EL final wrong, from the lineup to when changes were needed.
He hasn't shown, at least during his time managing the Red Devils, the ability to adapt.
EDIT: I understand you wanting him to do well as he had done so much for Sporting. Often times, managers and clubs do not work out.

I don't think United played bad in the final. I wouldn't play the same lineup but come on... they shot once. But I get where you're coming. Hope he turns it arround soon.

Re: Official Manchester United FC Thread
Not a United fan, and hardly ever watch the games. But as a rule...I think almost all teams are way, way, way too quick to sack the manager. These guys inherit someone else's culture. Their players built around what they want. Their habits. Unless you get $300+ mil to spend off the bat, there's no way your gonna change it in a year or two.
At some point, a team needs to pick a coach...and just let it ride for about 4 years. It sounds stupid, and impossible in today's game...but just look at the teams get stuck in the carousel. It's like quicksand....you can't make sudden, panic moves...or you just end up sinking deeper. And then it's gonna take even longer to get out.
Yes...at some point you gotta cut bait. I think Ten Hag was a complete disaster, and it was almost a bad thing that he won (was it the FA cup?) which ended up buying him more time. But he spent a fortune, and there was nothing to show for it. But if anything....that would be the tell-tale sign. If a guy gets to spend a couple hundred mil....on HIS guys...and there's little/nothing to show for it. THAT'S when you gotta question. But even then....it takes time. Shoring up 2-3 positions only goes so far, if the rest are horrible fits.
If I were a United fan....I would be looking at something like 4-5 years. Unless there's half a $Billion that can be spent over the next 2 years....it's really gonna take a few. If Amorim seems like the guy...the strap in, and prepare to ride it out for a couple years while he develops his team and culture. And for the guys out there saying: "are you nuts?!! You can't be irrelevant for 4-5 years!" <------- Well don't look now...but it's been almost a decade since you guys were "relevant". And your much worse now than you were 4 years ago...which is worse than you were 8 years ago. So I mean...yeah. Perhaps it's time to stop looking at the top 4....and look at getting a great defense. Just start with that.
Or not....I mean I'm a Liverpool fan...so if you guys wanna keep on spinning through coaches, be my guest.

It's soccer for you. Manager is always the 1st one to take the blame.
England is not so bad tough, try watching portugal or brazil and managers are sacked waaaay easier.

Bang on man. Have to pick a real path and commit. And I think we're doing that a bit, the academy is looking good and we may need to sell guys to fund things, (uff Elanga sure would look nice), but we need to have that slow burn. Trim the team, play the kids, focus on PL, FA Cup and Carabao.

Disagree with nearly everything you wrote. This is no longer the days of old. Unfortunately, "big" football clubs are looked at as a businesses first. Manchester United, for instance, has a clause with Adidas where if they miss out on CL for two consecutive years, which has now happened, their deal is reduced 10m (and continues to spiral the longer it goes).
You no longer have the luxury of a manager receiving three-to-five years if poor results continue, regardless if that is the correct approach. The sport, and business side, demand near instant success. And let's be real, if you look back at Klopp's first match at LFC, his lineup consisted of the following players:
Mignolet
Moreno, Sakho, Skrtel, Clyne
Can, Lucas
Coutinho, Lallana, Milner
Origi
Looking back at it, only Origi, Coutinho and Milner remained in his plans. But yet, he was able to keep them afloat in the league (8th). Meanwhile, for the Red Devils, they concluded their worst ever PL campaign, largely due to Amorim. Note the following season under Klopp, Liverpool finished 4th, back in the CL.

Delap already gone. I'd watch out with Bah. He's good but has been injured.

As you said, with Delap off the board and now Arsenal choosing Sesko, will Manchester United circle back for Gyokeres?

Honestly. I always kind of wanted him. A starting lineup like this would put us back in Europe.Baseline81 wrote:Joao Saraiva wrote:Delap already gone. I'd watch out with Bah. He's good but has been injured.

You won't be getting both Gyokeres and Mbuemo if Bruno remains with the club.

100 mil plus Garnacho 60. Rashford 40. Sancho 25, Malacia 10, Casimiro 25 and Antony 35
We would have 295 to spend depending on how much left on amortizations.
Cunha 60
Mbuemo 50
Gyokeres 60
Garcia 30..........thats 200 right there?

No club is paying that for Garnacho. Napoli wouldn't even go that high in the January window.
And Casemiro isn't leaving Manchester United, especially with the wages he's on.
We'll see what the offers for Antony are.

Re: Official Manchester United FC Thread
Bruno has to go. He is a fantastic player, a ballon d'or talent that spent a career with poor United teams going nowhere. What a waste. But he's now 31 and that sort of money for a 31 year old is something you should grab.
I'm a bit glad he won nothing relevant to be honest, as I dislike him a lot for things that happened when he was at Sporting.
It's the right business decision, even tough United is acting properly and letting him decide - he's earned it for what he's been trough and staying loyal to United.
