i HOPE Italy will win this group. Paraguay and Slovakia will be fighting for 2nd place. I like Paraguay, but Hamsik is a superstar

The Italian team can burn in hell. Bunch of ref bribing, cheating divers. They don't deserve to win a thing. As for who I hope wins this group, I'm going to have to say New Zealand. I know that's probably not likely to happen, but they're as close to an Aussie team as there is in this group, so I have to support them.

That's the spirit 5DOM! I hope that they and the Aussies both get through and finally end up playing each other. There is nothing I love more than beating Kiwi's. Well, maybe beating England.

Intelligent post. Post here more often But I would expect no different from a soccerroo fan.
Anyway, New Zealand will over achieve if they finish with a single point.

We'll see, come 2nd in your group and we get each other in the first knockout stages

BTW, why are you supporting NZ? It's the Haka isn't it?

It would be a good tournament for NZ if they score a single goal.

Italy should easily make it through. I'm way more Italian than I am Portuguese but after being a Warriors, Giants, and 49ers fan for so long it's hard for me to root for a favorite

Considering it's the truth, then yeah, you should expect that from a Soccerroo fan. The call was wrong. We know it, you know it, the diving Italian team knows it. FIFA even came out and admitted the call was wrong. If you want to support a team that can play not just within the spirit of the game, but also the rules, then I would encourage you to post more as well.

I don't get all the Italy hate. All teams dive, why do the Italians get more grief for it? They already got royally screwed at the South Korea world cup, give em a break.

I like to give italy grief because I'm german...so they're our main competition in the chase to catch Brazil, yeah, that's a good excu...reason.

How about this, Italy had a bull crap red card that game and still the australians weren't going to score on the almighty italian defense. Italy woulda went on to win in pks. will that scenario make you guys stop crying about it?

Considering I'm not crying, there is nothing to stop. You can assume that Italy would have won all you like, but the fact is they cheated. I can assume that the Aussies would would have won. Afterall, we WERE both on the same score. I'm not about to get into an argument about this with you though, because to be honest, I really don't care about soccer. I support the Aussie team in every sport, but most of all I support fairness, playing within the spirit of the game, playing by the rules and not cheating. I'm sorry to see that those things don't matter to you.

One second in an entire world cup means that Italy doesn't play within the spirit of the game? And after world cup 2002 when Italy was royally screwed by refs on multiple occasions, it is a joke to see how many people are still caught up on this.
I'll leave you with this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cS6Wqt00gTcand the fact that if you ever played soccer before you could feel a bit differently...when you are trying to dribble towards the goal and the defender throws themselves on the ground like that its clearly not an attempt to win the ball. He goes in with a slide tackle and completely turns his body sideways to impede progress. Then idk what he's doing with his arm?...and then raising his shoulders to where Grosso would have been able to run by? It was a controversial call and it sucks that it ended that way, but they can use a lesson or two from italians on how to defend

That was a sliding challenge in the box that impeded progress on a likely goal scoring opportunity, that has to be called a penalty. That's the first I've seen of the play but if that is what's been referred to then I don't get what the big deal is. You can't go around missing the ball and cutting off someone's body inside the box.
Italy suffered enough, they aren't a bunch of divers. If you don't believe that then watch this:

Yeah you guys got screwed, but FIFA made up for it by you guys winning the World Cup 06!

It's a bad tackle by the Australian defender but come on he doesn't even touch Grosso until Grosso hitches his left foot into the defender. Even if there was a contact before it was so marginal that you can't call a penalty for that. That's clearly not a penalty because the defender is just lying on the ground there and Grosso somehow manages to provocate a penalty...

You can slide & miss as much as you please as long as you don't foul someone in the box. And that wasn't a foul. The Italians are just quick to go to ground.
