Inter have announced Rafael Benitez will be the new coach until June 30 2012.
A statement on their official website reads:
"Inter welcomes Rafael Benitez. This morning, with reciprocal satisfaction, an accord for a two year deal that will tie the Spanish coach to the club until June 30, 2012, was reached.
"On Tuesday June 15, 2010 from 12:00CET, Rafael Benitez will be presented to the press at the Angelo Moratti training centre."
Earlier, president Massimo Moratti had claimed the deal was closed with the coach, pending an official announcement.
Benitez thus replaces Jose Mourinho on the Inter bench.
The Spanish coach spent six years at Liverpool, winning the Champions League, FA Cup, Uefa Super Cup and FA Community shield.

Good move by Inter. I like Benitez, he's a really good coach. He made the most out of that Liverpool team he had over the years. I expect Liverpool to go through a hard time with Benitez leaving.

This is good for Benitez.
Liverpool aren't going anywhere and their two best players might leave.

Basicly, i think Benitez coaching style is same as Jose Mourinho. Safe strategy,, defensive minded coach.
in his day at Chelsea, Jose often to use 4 static defenders & 1 anchor man, so Rafa does.
about Rafa's defensive minded thing, look at how amazing Pepe Reina has won 3 Golden Glove !!!

Just don't let him take complete charge of transfers.
The number of flops he bought into Liverpool over 6 years is alarming.

Maybe Inter has set the target for Benitez; in 2 years, he must bring at least 1 UCL trophy.
The man who responsible in transfer is Branca. That guy know how to transfer; look at Ibra-Eto'o deal, LOL

I think Moratti has a lot of pull when it comes to transfers.

https://goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial ... r-spendinggood research about this fallacy, he is no arsene but he wasn't as terrible as your average fan make it out to be.
i like this move for Inter, but it would be unfair to expect him to match Mourinho's success.

That's a really one-sided way of looking at transfer business. When you bring in a player he's either got to help you get better or be expected to make some kind of progress.
What I implied was him wasting his time on players like Lucas, Kyrgiakos, Voronin, Babel, Keane, Riera.. by bringing them in and then either under utilizing them or dumping them as they stayed stagnant/below par the entire time.
He spent close to or may be much more than 220 mil on players and all he has is a champions league medal in 6 seasons with most of the squad inherited from Houllier. Then he progresses to take them down to a 7th place finish.

By the way I guess Moratti is not kidding when he said in a statement that most if the transfer business will be taken up by a guy called Branco and benitez would be paid half of Jose's salary.

getting money from selling players is helping the team. every manager makes bad signings, bottomline is his signings has not exactly put a financial dent on the club and on the field he has been more successful than any Liverpool manager last 20 years.

Other than Xabi Alonso, Torres, Reina and Mascherano I don't see any good signings in 6 years.

Leto and Gonzalez made profits. Benayoun, Agger, Skrtel probably worth more than their purchase price. bad signings are Keane, Aquiliani, Riera, Pennant. Voronin signed for free, so did Kyragiakos. pretty even if you ask me.

Again, are more than half those guys Liverpool quality players to begin with? Agger and Skrtel are good and I guess Aquilani can still prove himself but buying guys like Dossena for 7 mil, Babel for 12 mil and so on were just bad transfer dealings being incharge of a top 4 club.

umm yea, that list doesn't really take into the current value of players he bought. i assume you think Torres' value is $0 to Liverpool right now.

I can't wait to see him play there while healthy. Its ashame he won't have Benitez though, but I believe he will be great.
