WC: I'm really disapointed in South African fans

I give the country plenty of credit for preparing for this event and the fans have really embraced it. But the atmosphere during the games looks very weak and the South African fans and their buzzing trumpets are to blame. I dont know if this is some sort of tradition or its their national instrument but it is one of the most annoying sounds i've ever heard during a game. This is just lazy support, i dont care if you blow that thing all 90 minutes, that is NOT cheering.

I come from Eastern Europe and the general fan base their has not quite caught up with the amazing atmosphere you find in Western Europe or South America, but those fans are miles more advanced then these S.African fans. In fact, the used to be a similar sounding instrument that was used that made an almost identical buzzing sound. In recent years the Federations and the fans themselves started a movement to BAN that annoying crap from stadiums.

I was hoping that this is something i'll have to endure only when S.Africa plays but it appears there will be more of it in every game. You can't even hear the real fans cheering because of this, its just a non stop buzz in your ear. How can anyway approve of something like this? There is no song, no melody, nothing, you can barely hear a drum on occasion but thats it. This World Cup experience has been really messed up for me because of this stuff. Anyone else annoyed with that?

I'm just glad I'm not watching this in person or around that stadium. THings could be much worse. Some of the newer TVs have a feature which accentuates dialog and reduces background noise. Might want to give that a try if you have it.

May be shoot up your treble on TV. That amplifies commentary over background noise.

FIFA doesn't have the balls to take a stand like that.

Although the racket in Soccer City seemed impressive, the South African goalkeeper said he was disappointed with the fan reception and noise making.

"The people who were making too much noise were the Mexicans, rather than hearing those vuvuzelas," Khune said. "It was more like a Mexico home game."

It kinda sucks if the host country does not support the home team the way most host countries usually do in the past.

EDITED: Clarified.

That'll change. South Africa made a statement today that they can make it out of this group, I expect their fans to be much more into the game and fierce in their next fixture.

Glad i'm not the only one.

I think they WERE supporting their team you just couldn't hear them over those vuvuzelas (is that what they are called?). Even when S.Africa scored i barely noticed a roar from the crowd. I dont know, i was expecting some native chants, drums, songs, etc. These guys just dont know how to cheer if they think these vuvuzelas is where its at.

Imagine if all you can hear after a goal like this are vuvuzelas.

I'll be extremely disappointed if the Greek chants are muffled out tomorrow morning. We're loud as hell and if even we can't be heard, this is going to be a massive problem.

and you are facing Korea.
They are pretty loud folks themselves.
It'll be funny if we can't hear the two supporters at all.

Am I the only one who doesn't care about the vuvelzas (spl?)? I'd rather hear the crowd but I end up muting the tv anyway since the announcers suck monkey balls.

Same here, I really don't care. I love hearing that the crowd is hyped up and into it.

It really annoys you that much? How loud do you have the TV?
