Isn't the NCAA part of the problem? In europe it's not uncommon to have 18-20 years old that are already part of the first time. While in USA some guys still play in college against most likely weak competition(you can get a scholarship for a NCAA team if you are playing in the 5th or 6th league in Germany) until they are 21 or older.

the only way they will be successful if they integrate the various leagues into a unified promotion relegation system, heavily invested in youth development, and get rid of the draft altogether.

a closed/draft-based system only works if you are the main destination for the talent, like in basketball/baseball/football.
if you are not even in the top tier of leagues (let alone being the top one), then the system is mortally flawed because it only rewards mediocrity, without allowing for investment and development.

Pro/rel has basically a zero percent chance to work. Not to mention the fan bases of some teams will disappear if they get relagated and expansion will stop (not paying 200m to possibly get demoted)

The usl teams are almost all owned or tied to an Mls team and the nasl is far too unstable. And other leagues are semi-pro at best.

The draft is for college players, they won't be involved in the pro/rel anyway.

The only way there will be pro/rel is between 2 Mls leagues. Lets call them mls1 and mls2.

I think that will happen eventually, they aren't going to turn down all those expansion fees after they get to 28 teams (the number they say).

He's not good. Tbf he did kind of show up last Tuesday, but he is part of the older generation that we need to move on from asap.

by worlds standards he's not up to par or acceptable for a starters role IMO.

to US standards, he's all they got however I will say that they misuse him. He was asked to be both a defender and attacker where as he should have sticked to defender cuz his off. game is horrible.

CF. Sargent. Dike. Hoppe
W. Pulisic. Weah. Morris.
AM. Reyna. Aaronson
CM. Weston. Musah
DM. Adams. Jonny. OwenO
LFB. Robinson.
CB. Brooks. Richards. Miazga.
RFB. Dest. Cannon.
GK. Steffen. Turner. Horvath.

Pretty much the fans concensus top players right now.
GKs is an interesting conversation. Steffen on bench at manC. and everyone else is just ok or from mls.
LFB need another option. some guys in lower levels and mls options, but none have stood out.
CB depth is wide open. Miazga, Zimmerman, Long, EPB, CCV all options.
DM. i love these options. Jonny plays in Brazil, so hes hard to follow. from the few mins hes gotten with usmnt and all the vids/clips/write ups he sounds like a more skilled mobile Beckerman.
CM/AM options are very good. havent really used AMs in recent formations, but those guys can be used as CMs also.
W. lots more options out there. feel like theyr below Morris level IMO.
F. wide open fight to get a spot. Sargent doesnt get service so he does everything else besides regular F moves/play. Dike is at Barnsley. is that high enough of a level? Hoppe at horrible Schalke. have some others at lower levels having good seasons.

4123 has been the formation being used recently.
and actually my fave formation and what i think is best for our players.
if i had to pick right now, this is what id go with :

PULISIC.......SARGENT........REYNA
..........WESTON. MUSAH
.................ADAMS
ROBINS. BROOKS. RICHARDS. DEST
.................STEFFEN

usa olympic team (u23)
just won 2 in a row vs Costa Rica and Dominican Republic
next up, vs Mexico.
but, that game isnt important in this group play/advancement
lacking some creative attackers,
and NOT being in season,
they have looked bland and static.
still, a W is a W.

Ferriera has shown well.
hopefully he carries this over to his club play.

Haven't been back here in a bit lol, but I had to check it out after last night's win vs. Mexico. Wild game, there's been some in the last 20 years or so between the 2, but this one is up there.

It has to be said. Ethan Horvath is a GD national hero.
GK1 has suddenly become interesting. Steffen probably has more physical tools, but he can be clumsy at times. Did very well in those 1v1 moments vs. Anthony Lozano and Chucky in this Nations League "Final Four". Horvath looked assured back there coming into that environment in the middle of the game. Didn't faze him one bit. I think both guys can be quality, but they are also current #2's on their respective teams. Horvath has been wanting out, it appears, so he may have a better shot at getting PT somewhere. I hope Steffen's injury isn't serious, can't help but think it looked like it.

CONCACAF Final Round is now complete with wins by Canada and El Salvador and a draw by Panama. Final Round of qualifying is now an "Octagonal", 8 teams instead of the former 6 team "Hexagonal". Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, USA, and Jamaica all got byes to the Final Round. 3 teams automatically qualify, 4th place heads to a playoff. Here's the dates for the US (no locations yet but we can try to guess):

September 2 - @ El Salvador
September 5 - vs. Canada
September 8 - @ Honduras

October 7 - vs. Jamaica
October 10 - @ Panama
October 13 - vs. Costa Rica

November TBD - vs. Mexico
November TBD - @ Jamaica

January 27 - vs. El Salvador
January 30 - @ Canada
February 2 - vs. Honduras

March 24 - @ Mexico
March 27 - vs. Panama
March 30 - @ Costa Rica

BUMP

usa v panama
5pm CT

NO Dest, Weston, Arob

since theres another game in 3 days, id go with heavy rotation for the starters, plus those 3 that are already out.
Gimme something like

Zardes. Hoppe. Weah
.....Busio ... Musah
.........Adams
Bello. Miles. Z. Yedlin
........Turner

same starters from first game, Musah, Adams, Milez, Z, Turner
which makes 6 new starters.
hopefully we are winning and we can sub Adams and Musah around the 65th.

Good to be back in the World Cup. Not the best qualifying cycle I've seen, but they got the job done. It's going to be one of the youngest teams in the World Cup, some project likely the youngest. The talent is there to make a bit of a run, but it all depends on the draw and who they may be set up to face in the round of 16, if this team can connect in such a short time-frame. Some questions at the striker, GK, possibly. I do think Steffen is locked in as Berhalter's #1, as long as he's healthy, but there are moments of nervousness. Pepi got off to a hot start, but clearly tailed off towards the end of qualifying. The #9 search has to be wide open, at this point.

after this last year or so,
all enthusiasm and winning expectations for usmnt should be dampened or gone.
good players, playing at some good clubs.
but,
fragile. and/or injured.
half of them not getting minutes.
we are not a good scoring team, but, we continue to play an attacking style of play.
thats NOT a good combination.

Wales
England
Iran
at the World Cup.
so much depends on winning that first match vs Wales.
