Klinsmann has been fired....

well, it'll be interesting going forward. As anyone would say.

They're saying the Sporting KC coach could be the replacement. IDK much about him so I have no idea how to comment. I know KC is one of the good squads out there, winning it all not too long ago.

It'll be Bruce Arena.

Since this is likely an interim option, I guess I can't knock it too much. He's been thru 2 cycles with the national team, albeit a long time ago now.

Bielsa is a risk, but he could really change U.S. football.

I still had faith that Klinsmann could get out of the hex. More than a new coach, we need time for the game to grow and talent to develop (I think establishing the academy system was a step in the right direction). Can't blame the coach for the talent pool, but that's the same for every national team. Interested to see who the new technical director is maybe more so than the coach.

the talent pool is the best it's ever been and he's getting the worst results since either the 80's or ever.

15 points, historically, is needed to be in the top 3 of concacaf with the auto entrance to the world cup.
if usa ends up 4th,
they will have to play a home/away vs a team from asia

USA doesnt have a lot of flexibility in their remaining games

March 24, 2017 MNT vs Honduras Home WIN 3PTS

March 28, 2017 MNT vs Panama Away TIE 1PT

June 9, 2017 MNT vs Trinidad & Tobago Home WIN 3PTS

June 13, 2017 MNT vs Mexico Away LOSE 0PTS

September 1, 2017 MNT vs Costa Rica Home WIN 3PTS

September 5, 2017 MNT vs Honduras Away TIE 1PT

October 6, 2017 MNT vs Panama Home WIN 3PTS

October 10, 2017 MNT vs Trinidad & Tobago Away TIE/WIN 1/3 PTS

any Loss at home,
requires a Win away,
if T&T are out by that last game, hopefully they play their B team, while usa needs a win and brings their A team

we can lose Away at Panama and Honduras, but then we HAVE too win at T&T

*

i dont like the choice of Bruce Arena,
but, it was not set up nicely for us to interview and contact coaches,
to find a better fit

we NEED to find Left FullBacks
then we can use Fabian Johnson as a mid or wing

please NO Omar, Chandler, Wondo
please NO Jones and Bradley as our mids.....only if theres a 3 man mid and the roles are DM, CM, CM/AM
prefer NOT a 4-4-2 formation

*

normally,
we have a training camp in January
followed by 2 friendlies

so we'll see who Bruce likes in 6 weeks or so

i dont think i can agree with this statement.
we dont have any game changers like Donovan and Dempsey
and thats only going back 1 cycle

Jurgen has failed to find a Left FullBack, and testing out the next group of CMs

all of the 24 year olds and younger,
havent flourished in their club careers.
only Pulisic.

i think the talent level is pretty much the same,
and will continue to be.

my expectations for usa is to be #1 or #2 in every way in concacaf
WC qualifying, Gold Cup

Hey Pandemoneum,

How you feel that Bruce is back again for Team USA?

Do you agree? Would you have had wanted someone else?

the choices were pretty slim.
not many out of work, quality, coaches.
then, who would leave their club situation, to try and fix and qualify for the WC.
earlier i posted
"i dont like the choice of Bruce Arena,

no matter what happens, Bruce will be able to find another job if he chooses.

i hope Bruce keeps calling in the quality euros,
and doesnt exclude them
like JK did with mls guys.

i expect a bit aggressive play at home
very reserved and boring away

if we qualify, then Bruce until World Cup
if we dont, then maybe we can search for a new guy for the next cycle.
be done with everyone 30 yrs old and older

january we will have a training camp,
and we'll see what kind of call ups BA does
then 2 friendlies

Good discussion with new U.S. coach Bruce Arena, who met with national reporters in New York City this morning. Big takeaways: Arena is heading to Germany this weekend to scout Bundesliga-based players; he sees Michael Bradley as a No. 6 (defensive midfielder); he said Jermaine Jones, 35, "still has something to offer" the national team.

is there enough time to make big changes?
thats a big question.

JK didnt really try other CMs.
so we dont know if the others can handle concacaf play

Bradley + Jones as our 2 midfielders does NOT work.
in a 4-4-2, this combination has never produced positive results, and has never looked good.

give them a 3rd mid.
either a DM with Bradley + Jones as the CMs
or designate 1 of them as the DM and add another CM or AM

..kljestan -- bradley
..........jones

..bradley -- bedoya
..........jones

*

Bruce likes to defend and counter, vs teams that are more skilled and hard away matches.
how does Altidore fit in that?
he doesnt have speed, he doesnt cover any ground.
ive never liked Altidore.
if he doesnt score, hes worthless out there.
he doesnt pressure the defenders enough, so they can pick out the midfielders with easy passes.
makes the job harder for the mids.

Zardes is still injured.
but, since BA sees him every day with the Galaxy,
i can see him being in the mix and a favorite of BAs.
..even tho we have all noticed that Zardes has the worst first touch on the team.

*

i have mentioned it before, probably too much,
best formation for this usa team, imo, is a 4-1-2-3
those familiar with the MLS, similar to what KC and Portland do

three attackers.
in a perfect world, they could all be interchangeable.
WING ---F--- WING

two midfielders. can be center mids, attacking mids, can have same style of possession and passing. can be two runners.
.....CM......CM

a defensive midfielder, destroyer type
if we need goals and more attacking a holding mid or a regular center mid with defensive responsibilities
..........DM

a regular back line.
LFB - CB - CB - RFB

*

right now, id go with

PULISIC ----- WOOD ----- FABIAN
......KLJESTAN -- BEDOYA
...............BRADLEY
BESLER-BROOKS-CAMERON-YEDLIN

would have been GREAT to see a Kljestan + Nagbe combination
could be our 2 best possession midfielders
maybe Benny gets a look now

Bruce Arena calls up 32 players from MLS in first squad since return to U.S.

Bruce Arena's first squad in his second stint as U.S. coach is made up entirely of Major League Soccer players.

Arena, who replaced Jurgen Klinsmann as the U.S. manager in November, called up 32 players from 15 different MLS clubs for U.S. Soccer's annual January training camp that begins next week in Carson, California.

The camp falls outside of a FIFA international window, meaning clubs in Europe and Mexico did not have to release their players. Last year, Jerome Kiesewetter -- then with German club Stuttgart -- was the only player from outside MLS to attend Klinsmann's final camp.

Arena said he was looking to find players who can help the U.S. recover from its poor start to the final round of World Cup qualifying when the "hex" resumes in March.

"The last couple of games in qualifying didn't go well, so we're looking for some players that are eager to get on the field and make some contributions," he said in a Facebook chat.. "I believe our team, when you look at the entire pool, not only in Major League Soccer but abroad as well, we have enough talent to win games.

"We can score goals. Defensively, we can be strong. Our goalkeeping is solid. Our back line can play a lot better than they have, and I think our top 4-5 players in attack are talented players and depending on who we utilize, we have speed and we have players that have proven they have the ability to score goals at the international level."

Four players -- DaMarcus Beasley, Michael Bradley, Chad Marshall and Nick Rimando -- are still around from Arena's last tenure with the national team, which ended after the 2006 World Cup.

Marshall and Sacha Kljestan have not taken part in a January camp since 2010, while Dax McCarty was called in for the first time since 2011. In all, 13 players return from Klinsmann's 23-man camp a year ago.

"I thought Chad Marshall had a great year in Seattle and I'm really looking forward to seeing him in camp," Arena said.

Unless we find a way to seriously empower and develop our young talent, we're in for a really ugly stretch of low-talent smash mouth football. We're looking at maybe 5 remaining starters from our last World Cup run and that's assuming none of Cameron, Jozy, Fabian or Bradley get injured.

With most of our young guys playing a coin toss game of 'will Borussia develop me?' we're basically left hoping **** Dom Dwyer gets citizenship. I have a lot of faith in Palmer-Brown/Carter-Vickers/Miazga, but the midfield triumvirate of Zelalem, Hyndman and Arriola (three guys I really like) has a combined weight of 150 pounds and remains extremely raw.

Precarious time for American soccer, but at least we seem to have a legitimate pipeline now that our youth system is out of the dark ages.

looks like concacaf will get 6 teams going to the World Cup.
so, even if we suck, wer still going.
i dont like it, it really makes each regions qualifying tournaments, less important.

*

theres an article that states, from Bruce Arena........Zusi will play Right Full Back in the up coming camp.

probably because Jurgen said, anyone can play FB

*

BA has all ready failed in even looking for FBs.
had his chance to call in a bunch and get a look, but has decided to go with Zusi and DeMarcus Beasley.
