2014 World Cup Qualification Thread (AFC, CAF, OFC)
Asian Football Confederation 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualification
Qualification begins with two sets of two-leg knock-out qualification rounds - the first held on 29 June and 3 July 2011 and the second on 23 and 28 July - reducing the number of teams in the main draw to 20. As in the 2010 format, the third stage consists of 5 groups of 4 teams (with matches held between September 2011 and February 2012) with the top 2 in each group advancing to 2 groups of 5 that will play a further group stage during 2012. The top two teams in each group qualify for the 2014 finals directly, with the two third-placed teams playing-off for a chance to qualify via a further inter-confederation qualifying tie (against a team from either the OFC, CONCACAF or CONMEBOL).

Confederation of African Football 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualification
Fifty two out of the 53-National Associations affiliated to CAF will take part in the qualifying series to determine the continent’s five slots for the next World Cup.[1]
The proposed format, announced on 16 May 2011, begins with a first round of 12 two-legged knock-out ties to be held on 11 and 15 November 2011. The ties, involving the 24 lowest-ranked teams according to FIFA World Rankings, will be drawn in Brazil on 30 July 2011.
The 12 winners will join the remaining 28 CAF entrants in the second round, which will consist of 10 groups of 4. The winners of each group - held between June 2012 and September 2013 - will advance to a third round of 5 two-legged knock-out ties. The 5 winners of these ties - held in October and November 2013 - will advance to the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals.

Oceania Football Confederation 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualification
Qualification is scheduled to begin in August 2011 at the 2011 Pacific Games in Noumea, New Caledonia, where the men's football tournament will double as the first stage of the OFC World Cup qualifying competition. The gold, silver, and bronze medallists will advance to the second phase. These three teams will join seeded team New Zealand in a home-and-away round-robin tournament on FIFA match dates in 2011 and 2012, also acting as the 2012 OFC Nations Cup.
The second round winners will compete in the inter-confederation play-offs with a team from another confederation, which will be either AFC's fifth-placed team, CONCACAF's fourth-placed team or CONMEBOL's fifth-placed team, to be chosen through a random draw,[2] rather than being decided by FIFA beforehand as in previous tournaments

I know it seems MEGA early for these threads but both the AFC and CONCACAF qualification tournaments start next month. It's crazy to even be thinking about 2014, but the journey for some teams begins very soon.
Also if someone would like to make a UEFA thread when to time is right that would be great. I'll do my best to update both these threads as I have split up the confederations in a pretty fair way I think. UEFA is just too much for me to update.
I'll bump these threads just before game one.

It still sucks though that they are going to get a spot at the WC. But maybe they actually become good enough

Well they have like 12 years to work on it.
South Africa wasn't a very strong team when they hosted though, so I doubt FIFA cares too much as long as they don't get demolished.

Re: 2014 World Cup Qualification Thread (AFC, CAF, OFC)
With such a small population base and really, close to zero soccer heritage and hardly any soccer-related infrastructure built up previous to this, Qatar will be hard pressed to record a single goal in the World Cup, IMO.
Their only hope is to lure foreign players to gain dual citizenship as a Qatari and enable them to play in international competition. (Which they have done plenty in the past)
If I'm not mistaken, 8 of their current 23-man squad for the Asian Cup are naturalized citizens; quite a few of those from Ghana.
