Who I actually saw play? Captain Marvel, Bryan Robson takes a lot of beating. That man was 100% action, box-to-box, leading by example for 90 minutes every game. I remember a quote from Paul Ince about when he first arrived at Manchester United, witnessing Robson sprint 50 yards to make a tackle, and the impression it made on him.

Baresi on the late 80s/early 90s Milan team was equally immense.

David Beckham.

Ok, I'll be serious. Bobby Moore.

I don't think you can go wrong with the 1st 2 choices. Keane was just one the best captains ever and I've never met anyone as intense and as intimidating as Oliver Kahn.

Honorable mention to Steven Gerrard and Maldini

Zagorakis by far. Zero question in my mind. Him and Dellas are the main reasons we won Euro 2004. Zagorakis mixed it up with the best, Zidane, Figo. Fearless even if he wasn't talented.

Oh yeah, then there was this beauty:

However, Effenberg's international career was marked by controversy and several years in the international wilderness, after the German Football Association refused to consider him for selection following an incident at the 1994 FIFA World Cup. In the group game against South Korea, Effenberg had gestured in an inappropriate manner ("gave the finger") to fans at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas when he got substituted after a subpar performance; the Germans were then only one goal up, after leading 3–0.[5] Because of this incident, coach Berti Vogts decided to drop Effenberg from the German national team for the remainder of the tournament.

@#!$ this guy!

Franz Beckenbauer on the other hand has to be mentioned here. Yeah, I'm not old enough to have seen him play, but still. He was the coach, totally taking over from the guy on the sideline. He pretty much coached the 1974 squad by himself, setting up the lineups and tactics. Then there is his performance in the game of century, playing more than 60mins with a broken shoulder in the greatest match ever played. Probably one the shrewdest tacticians to ever kick against a ball.

^I think when it comes to Germans it has to be Oliver Kahn, don't get me wrong from the clips I saw of Beckenbauer he was that national team, I still say he's the best CB of all time. But when a captain is needed to get you over the hump against all odds Kahn wins it hands down. Just look at how he pretty much dragged Germany in the 2002 WC.

for me it's between Hagi and Maldini, but Hagi's position enabled him to dictate the team bit better.

Well, we all know that Kahn did feast on the bones of little children and snorted pure Plutonium to keep his energy level up, which obviously violates a whole bunch of ant-doping rules. There's also strong evidence that he is the bogeyman and I always suspected that he has more than recommended amount of testicles, which is kinda gross.

In conclusio: Gimme Beckenbauer over Kahn.

Well, that just convinces me further that Kahn would be my preference.

Oh what a great captain he is...

England captain John Terry cheated on his wife with the girlfriend of his best pal and ex-team mate Wayne Bridge.

The shameless Chelsea star, 29, had a secret affair with French model Vanessa Perroncel, 33, who has a two-year-old son with Bridge.

I just couldn't resist.

FCPorto 2 big captains:

Jorge Costa

and clearly

João Pinto

This guy played one full season with a broken finger (the one that always shots the ball) because he think his team need him a lot :D
And when we won the Champions League in 1987, he received the trophy in Wien (Austria) and just dropped it when they arrived at our stadium in Porto (Portugal). The other players just can take their photos with the trophy after that
He's a legend...pure awesome

Lúcio.

These days: "The symbol that comes at the uniform's front, is more important that the name, that comes at the uniform's back."

On lack of focus of Brazilian National Team defenders, like Daniel Alves and André Santos, especially Alves.
