Ajax products are usually quality, and Vertonghen looks fantastic. Great football instincts, but his weakness from the little I've seen seems to be distribution out of the back.

Does he go straight into the first team or sit behind King/Kaboul?

More good news, we're apparently wrapping up a 5 mill euro permanent move for Ade. Still don't know how we'll afford his 170k wages...

12M euros according to Ajax

Ah, 12 million. Still a fantastic deal for a player of Vertonghen's caliber.

Very excited that Levy is getting his business done early in the window and pursuing high quality targets. Vertonghen's reputation speaks for itself, but I saw a lot of Sigurdsson for Swansea last season and he's a class player too. The real question is where he'll fit into our lineup. We were pretty awful from set-pieces last season so I can see him becoming a dead eye specialist and as backup for VDV.

Adebayor staying is definitely good news, but the wages issue is still a little vexing. There have been rumours suggesting that Spurs may be subject to investment by a Kuwaiti billionaire family. Perhaps it's wide of the mark, but with Bale's new contract and Adebayor returning, Spurs are committing a lot of money with perhaps a future takeover in mind.

Think VDV is gone and Sigurdsson will replace him.

I hope VDV doesn't leave, he's all we have on set pieces and without him our attack gets pretty weak. We already play with one striker so unless we swoop up Moutinho (looks unlikely) that would be a poor move for us.

Mereiles to Tottenham rumors...haven't followed his career at Chelsea, but he's been ok for Portugal. Am I missing something? Doesn't seem like a real stalwart in a top 4 club's first team.

How close do you guys think we'll get to the 40 mill Modric valuation? If we sell to PSG I'd say pretty close, but Real seems keen on not spending more than 25.

I'm thinking we'll get 30. AVB had his first interviews and a press conference as Spurs boss today and he said this about Modric: "Ongoing discussions will continue with these clubs until we reach an agreement which is acceptable for each party." Seems like he's more of less a goner... I really hope AVB has a replacement in mind. Despite being a different type of player to Modric, Moutinho would be wonderful, but it seems unlikely.

There's also rumours suggesting Defoe to Reading for 12mill. Great price for a bench player, but we really can't afford to lose any strikers.

Ya...we're thin at striker and Defoe has been good off the bench. Not sure how much longer he'll be cool with that role though.

12 mill is quite a bit for a bench striker though, tough to pass up.

Should have sold Modric to Chelsea when you guys had the chance. They were offering 40m for him.

I'm pretty sure Levy would rather take 10 million less than sell him to Chelsea, or anywhere else in the PL. I think PSG will be the ones to eventually pony up the funds to sign him, it could be anywhere between 30-40 million, but I'm thinking on the lesser end of that scale.

On a different note, our new kits were officially revealed today.

I'm gonna buy the away jersey for sure, already ordered a Bale version of last year's white jersey.

I like Under Armour much more than Puma, but the Bale jersey was $75 as opposed to the usually $130+ it costs for an authentic personalized jersey. Worth it imo, they don't look all that different.

Any idea when those jerseys will be available for sale?

They're available now on the official Spurs store.

In transfer news we're being heavily linked with Hugo Lloris. Some people are even saying that a 15 million fee has been agreed and we're discussing personal terms with him. What do you guys think about this? Lloris just had a tough season for Lyon but he is an unquestionably talented goalkeeper. It's a lot of money to spend on a keeper, especially when we're in dire need of strikers, but I think Lloris may be too good to pass on.

I almost thought Spurs would ride out another season with Friedel and give Ben Foster his second chance.

I like Lloris, big shot stopper. But 15 mill on a keeper, when we already have a capable Friedel? IDK...I think a backup winger and striker should be more of a priority but who knows, maybe that's what puts us over the top. Something that's tough with Tottenham is that we have such quality in our side...but just not quite enough to challenge for a title. So Lloris might be a gamble we need to take to try and get to that next level. TBH only seem him in international play though.

Modric to Real is apparently all but finalized for near that 40 mill euro figure.

Thanks for the info. With shipping to USA I can imagine that will be rough, I'm gonna wait until it at least goes to under armour's site.

Do you by chance have last year's kit? Wondering about how it fits.

Unfortunately not. I haven't bought a new Spurs jersey in a few years. Last one I owned was the away kit back from the 09/10 season.

I couldn't really justify spending that amount of money on a shirt that would only be 'current' for a year, although I am a fan of throwbacks too. I have an old mid 90s Klinsmann-era shirt, and a more recent 07/08 Carling Cup final jersey from when we won it under Ramos.

In semi-related news, has anyone seen Arsenal's new away shirts? They look like they were designed by Tim Burton.

Modric to Real for between 30-35 mill pounds: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... d-30m.html

Where do we go from here? I think we definitely need a replacement, Sandro isn't enough to start and back up Parker.

AVB apparently wants Hulk at Tottenham...if that's our only big signing I'll be very disappointed. We definitely need wing depth but we need to get a Modric replacement still...
