We had a 30 million Euro bid for Roberto Soldado rejected by Valencia...

Thoughts?

Very good finisher, but his height/age make me extremely reluctant to count on him for the majority of our starting striker minutes. He's not worth that fee IMO.

Llorente obviously isn't happening, but I'd bet Damiao could be had for less that 30m.

Random, but, what about Dempsey? He'd help in multiple ways. Spot start striker and wing depth for the inevitable Lennon injury, but I'm not quite sure how high the transfer fee is.

Ade transfer isn't dead yet according to the notorious AVB...

Dempsey ticks all of the boxes. He's a good player and can score for fun, he's coming off the back of a tremendous season too. I thought he was headed to Liverpool, though? I guess not. It seems like he definitely wants to leave Fulham, so it would be nice if we could get a sneaky bid in.

I still can't believe we're keeping Defoe as our only senior striker...might as well just have him stand behind the back line from the get-go, he's always in an offsides position anyway.

Strong sub striker, not a starter on a top 4 team.

Did VDV not start against Newcastle? Was he hurt?

Today's random transfer rumors:

Loan request made to Arsenal for...Chamakh
Apparently interested in Adam Johnson, who would be awesome wing depth
Ade deal almost done!!!

Adam Johnson would be great. He might be the only underrated British player alive.

Agreeing on all counts about Adam Johnson. Lennon is good but very injury prone, and Adam Johnson provides a different option on that right flank and some quality squad depth. I'd be very happy with him if we were to sign him.

Hell no to Chamakh. We don't want/need Arsenal's garbage.

And how many times has the Ade deal been 'almost done' now? I'm beginning to think it will never happen. :-?

This is saddening. Dawson has been a loyal servant for many years, and one of the best character guys on our team. It will be tough to see him go.

I really don't know anything of Willian besides the fact that he's a highly touted prospect, and Chelsea were also pursuing him.

Can anybody who's seen him play fill me in? I'm intrigued but he doesn't seem like the kind of Modric replacement mould that I would expect us to aim for from what little I've read.

Losing him and King will be a big hit, two fantastic leaders.

The Ade deal is HUGE. Literally and figuratively, we needed a big striker bad. As for Willian and Damiao, I'm not too high on the latter but the former is really, really good. Smaller winger that reminds me of Lennon in that his first touch is very good but not great and he creates well from the wing, but Lennon's faster and Willian invites more contact.

TBH I put very little stock into his performances because his league is so random. Ukraine I think. He looks like a good player though. Exciting times.

I guess I should add that I don't think he's a CM.

Kaboul is not a center back, they will regret this if one of Gallas or Vetonghen get injured. I guess Levy told AVB to sell to buy and QPR are paying good money for Dawson.

If they had the Modric money already they might not have to sell him.

What is Kaboul if he's not a center back?

I'm a big Dawson fan, but that transfer sum is about as good as we could ever get...still I don't think I would have taken it. Especially because we still have major holes to fill with no imminent replacements in sight.

There seems to be something holding up Dawson's sale. Fee's agreed but personal terms seem to be the hold-up... perhaps he's angling for more money? I expect it will still go through, though.
