Do You miss the World Cup?

Post#1 » by Stannis » Sun Mar 4, 2012 11:49 am

Staying up late watching some old highlights and goalls from the 2010 and 2006 World Cup. World Cup is the best time of year for me, no feeling like it.

You have EURO 2012 this summer, it is good, but nowhere near the same as the World Cup.

I enjoy watching the NBA and other sports. Been trying to find a favorite club to make soccer more enjoyable. I hardly watch club ball.

I wish the NBA had a cup every 4 years that meant as much as the World Cup.

The world cup is special because it's only every four years but...

...honestly, I love the knockout stages in the Champions League more than the WC. :dontknow:

I think football-wise CL>Euro>WC, but as an event WC is just so much bigger and more interesting. I think it also helps that I live in such a multicultural city. People just go at it

Nothing is better than the WC for. Yes, I can understand why you would say that CL and Euro are better since the quality of teams is higher. The WC has about 20 teams that are well below the top tier teams, but the WC is just more exciting than anything else. The whole world is watching and I also feel like the players give it their all. To me, it goes WC, Euro, and CL.

Normally I would, but World Cup 2010 was awful, and the final was an utter disgrace. Kind of soiled my interest in international football.

The World Cup is the second biggest sporting event in the world in my opinion. The quality of soccer may not be as good as Champions League, but nothing beats coming together as a country to cheer on the world's best.

How can Euro be ahead of world cup when it is lacking some of the best teams in the world. South America has so many talented teams to offer.

I guess he means there aren't too many easy teams in the Euros like Saudi Arabia and North Korea who get trounced on a regular basis.

My favorite is the champions league though for the intensity and the guys play alongside each other every week, and while I love the WC, part of the charm comes from it being once in a 4 year event.

While I had been a Soccer fan way before WC 2006 I really miss it, too. That was probably the greatest summer I've ever had. The atmosphere in Germany was outstanding.

Too bad Italy crushed all German hearts by beating us in a game I will never forget. I had never experienced a more intense game. The quarter finals against Argentina was almost as intense but I had a worse feeling prior to the semifinals than I had before the quarterfinals.

In general, though, I gotta say that I'm fine with the WC being only every four years. That's what makes it so special to me. Just take a look at Hockey or Basketball. There's a WC, EC (Basketball only) and/or the Olympics every year which makes it less intense to me as a viewer. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy these tournaments but winning the Soccer WC is much more important tome than a Basketball WC, EC or the Olympics - and I'm a die hard Basketball fan.
