3 points at Azteca? That's unrealistic even for many of the top South American teams.

Very unrealistic, but you never know with sports.

I'm hoping for 2 points, but will be happy with 1.

I just want Canada to do well. I bleed red and white, and it's so frustrating that Canada hasn't been to the World Cup since the mid-80s. I will re-adjust my expectation to 2 points in the next two games, but I am really REALLY hoping for 6 points.

It's game day for Canada in World Cup Qualifying. We play Mexico tonight, and again on the 29th.

We are currently sitting in second in our group, but these will be by far our toughest games. I'm hoping for two points, but will be happy with one over the next two games.

Canada is going to bunker hard against Mexico today. If I remember correctly, they bunker'd against 2nd/3rd string El Salvador team a while ago. A draw for Canada would be an excellent result for them. But I think Mexico has too much firepower to leave this game with zero goals, imo.

That being said, if Mexico starts Marquez as DM and have Yasser Corona as one of their CBs, those are clearly the weak points in Mexico's XI. Canada needs to attack those points of the field. Marquez is old and Yasser has been awful for Mexico so far.

Just my .02 cents.

I'm praying for a 1-1 game. If we can tie in Canada, and lose our game in Mexico I will be perfectly happy. We will bunker for 90 minutes tonight, so hopefully we can stay strong.

Game time in 45 minutes. No Arfield in the starting XI seems odd to me.

This is Mexico's XI (4-3-3):

[tweet]https://twitter.com/CanadaSoccerEN/status/713534325011177472[/tweet]

This is a real strong Mexican team. If Jonathan dos Santos wasn't injured, he would replace Marquez. Carlos Vela would probably displace either Lozano or Corona but Real Sociedad declined to release Vela to Mexico. But other than that, that's essentially the strongest Mexican team can field at the moment, imo.

Canada held strong for 30 minutes, then let the flood gates open.

Atiba Hutchinson has played well though, he's about the only bright spot tonight. We have blown the few chances we had by skying the ball.

How pathetic is our soccer program?

Our national team's starting line up has one guy who does not have a club, and our captain can't even hold down an MLS job, so he plays for the Ottawa fricken' Fury.

Atiba is pretty much the only player who looked composed.
For lease.

Tosaint Ricketts is without a team because he wasn't getting paid from his last club, not that he's not good enough to play in Europe.

Likely another loss tonight, but we are still in a great position to make the next round.

We just have to take care of business in our final two games.

What is the first tie breaker? Overall goal differential?

Well that sucked. Just saw the highlights but up 1-0 in Honduras very, very disappointing to lose 2-1. Really like to see us in the hex in my life

This sucks. Another World Cup without Canada. I know the round isn't done yet, but let's be real -- Canada will not advance with Mexico (already advanced) and Honduras 2nd.

*sigh* Maybe 2022, 2024, 2028, 2032, or ????

Watched the last 20 minutes and it seems like the coach was not interested in getting a point at all subbing in a CB for Larin whose basically the country's best striker. Even if he was struggling I don't understand this strategy. We're 3 points down and GD is 5 for Honduras. Mexico is probably not going to field their full side, and why should they, they were already through the final round ages ago, so they aren't going to hammer Honduras enough for GD to equal out even if we win big vs El Salvador.

The only positive for team Canada going into the future is that they finally hired Jason De Vos who is actually quite passionate about the growth of the game in the country. We also get the bonus of not having him on TSN anymore and watching him yap about defenders all day.
