How does the setup favour American/Mexican teams (actual question, not trying to be an ass, I just don't follow soccer as much...)?

USA and Mexico teams dont have to face each other in the group stage. This tournament is really set up to have all four Mexican and four American teams advance to the knockout round. I wonder if that'll actually happen

The grids are set up so that no US or Mexican team has to play each other in the first round ever. Aside from the Canadian entry there's not another team that will seriously contend with any Mexican or US based team consistently. So the Canadian entry will always be in a "group of death" where they have to play another MLS or Mexican team in the first round.
