I'm not sure how we're going to handle the matches and votes. If separate threads for each group is what we need, let me know.

Guess just do separate threads for each group and vote on two teams to go through?

BTW, we've got this Turco!

I'd like it if we could do actual matches. We set up each fixture as a poll, draw option included. Tally points along the way. Top 2 go through. The alternative is a bit lame. :(

I was asking because i don't know if we can keep setting up new polls in a thread or we have to have distinct threads for each fixture. If the former is possible, we could sticky each group's thread and just update the title with the match-up being voted on.

My only concern is that it would take way too long if we are to do every match starting group stage. Maybe have one thread for each group, and in that thread, leave your predictions for every matchup?

e.g.

blkout v britblazerdude: 3 points for blkout (reason)
BoogDOM v ZUDAMAGIC: 100 points for BoogDOM (reason)
....
....
BoogDOM v britblazerdude: 100 points for BoogDOM (reason)

Then tally the points to pick the 2 teams to advance

I'm happy to along with the majority obviously, but it's a bit of a shame. Tactical adjustments and lineup changes would just go out the window.

That would be good, could set up a game every 2 days or something and hold the poll for a day or so. I believe you can change the poll questions on any thread anyway so you don't have to make a new thread each time.

Might have to set up the polls for the games on each group thread though, might get a bit messy if you try to do something like 'Game thread day 1' for example with all the fixtures, would especially make a draw option difficult in that case.

What we can also do is assign each player 2 random matches (not involving his team) to judge.

I think this could be a good idea, I volunteer if this is the case

I think we are going to have a separate thread for each match starting second round, so if your team advances, you may use your subs

I'd be happy to update the group threads btw. Let's say 12 hours dedicated to each match. You have 3 hours to announce your line-up and strategy. We then get to vote for 9 hours.

That would wrap up the Group Stage in 5 days because matches in separate groups will be going simultaneously. Not too bad.

Can we actually keep setting up new polls in the same old thread?

Edit: Considering how long the draft took, even setting aside 24 hours for each match might be fine. Group stage would be over in 10 days.

Try it with this thread, but I'm pretty sure you can keep changing the polls and the questions.

What happens if your opponent doesn't submit anything? Or just posts their formation and nothing else? I'm not against that (time wise it's going to be hard for me to do much more than that) but I guess I'd feel a bit unfair if I posted my XI and "vote for blkout" while someone else posts war & peace but I still win because they thought Joe Allen was a solid 3rd round pick.

For games my recommendation is:

Have a thread for each GROUP...Please no polls, have the 20 participants in this league decide the winner of each match in a post. Thoughts?

In the knockout rounds, we can determine tie-breakers (extra time voting...not sure how we do this yet)

Games should be 24 hrs long upon both teams posting their lineup/tactics

blkout: I don't think there's anything unfair about that scenario. We'll each submit what we can.

poeman: I actually hope the rest of the board will get in on the voting and the discussion. I sincerely doubt anyone here would actually cheat via the poll one way or another.

Also, if we incorporate the line-up announcement into the 24 hour match period, we could arrange and make known a very simple tournament schedule which would just about ensure everybody's commitment ahead of time. In essence, we would have match days. We would know those days ahead of time and prepare accordingly.

Didn't have the time to play, but I'd really like to be able to vote. I can guarantee I'm unbiased.

I'd hate to loose the opportunity to tweak my lineup from match to match, especially given the different set ups in my group. 9 of my 11 starters are set but those final two spots can go to literally anyone else depending on the specific opponent so not being able to adjust from match to match would kinda make my drafting strategy pointless.

I'm cool with whatever. I think it should be polls open to the whole board though. I just want to get this going.

If we're all on board with the 24-hour period, i'll make the group threads.

Let's say matches go up at 3 PM CET? Line-ups are due (but can be announced before your match is up, which would help people in the PT zone and Australia) and voting kicks off at 9 PM CET, lasts for 18 hours, at which point, we move on to the next match and update the thread title and poll.

Objections?
