2015 AFC Asian Cup: Australia wins first title

Post#1 » by LittleOzzy » Sat Jan 3, 2015 12:56 am

he 2015 AFC Asian Cup will be the 16th edition of the AFC Asian Cup, an international football tournament organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). It is scheduled to be held in Australia from 9 to 31 January 2015. The winners of the tournament will earn the right to participate in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, which is to be hosted by Russia.

So is the excitement building for this tournament in Australia or is soccer still a hard sell?

Hard sell. The Asian teams didn't show much in the world cup. I reckon Japan will take this, maybe Australia.

I'd think people will go in reasonable numbers to the Aus games, but more will watch on TV. Got a decent squad, and people will be looking at how our next WC squad evolves.

We've got the cricket WC this year too, Australian open coming up soon as well that will divert the interest of the casual soccer fan.

Soccer is growing a lot here, but I don't think there'll be a hell of a lot of interest in this.

Iran kept a tie with Argentina till the 91st minute until Messi scored. I was heartbroken...

The only countries I'm remotely interested in watching are Australia and Japan. I don't know how they're selling tickets to some of these games. I mean unless you had a background from one of the countries, who in their right mind would pay money to see someone like Uzbekistan vs Saudi Arabia?

Australia has started exactly how they needed to in the first 2 games. They have scored 8 goals and look like the believe they are the best team on the park. Obviously the opposition are not the top team in the tournament, but Oman pushed Korea on the weekend and are ranked above us. Hopefully they have another good win in Brisbane this weekend and finish top

I suspect a tie with Korea. I don't think Australia has it in them to win it. Maybe Japan or Iran.

I think you may be right, It will be a tougher game. Hoping they get the win though and potentially an easier game in the QF. I think Japan are the Fav to win too, but hopefully the Green and Gold can pull it out (be hard to do though)

Has been a good start for Aus. As said, Korea will be a lot tougher.

The games played in Canberra have all sold relatively well despite a heap of rain on both occasions. Apparently quite a few bus (boat) loads of Korean/Chinese came down from sydney for their respective games

Well done to the Aussies on making it to the final.
