The championship it is. Deservedly so.

I can honestly only see 10 of this squad staying at the club by the end of the window (and 3 or 4 of those only because no-one else wants them). What we need is an immediate sacking of Rudkin and any other incompetent staff. Complete replacement of coaching staff including Sadler and Stowell (who isn't even a good goalkeeping coach) within 2 weeks. Transformaton of squad by the end of July with enough time for the new coaching staff to get us ready for a bruising campaign.

Here's what I expect to happen with the squad:

Players to stay or go
End of contract 2023
tielemans - gone
tete -go
Amartey - good for championship but go
Soyuncu - gone
Mendy - gone
Evans - retired
Bertrand - shot
End of contract 2024
Maddison - sold 50-60m
N'didi - I'd keep him but will be sold 15m
Nacho - I'd keep him but will be sold 15m
Thomas - keep, but someone will offer 20m for him
Praet - sold 5m
Vestergaard - gone on a free
Vardy - I'd keep him for another year
smithies - why?
End of contract 2025
Barnes - sold 50 -60m
Castagne - sold 20m
Ward - please get rid, can't see anyone taking him
Iversen - happy to sell, but can't see anyone buying him.
End of contract 2026
JJ - keep but will be bought by Luton for 20m
Soumaré - please give him away, can't see anyone taking him
Daka - stays
Ricky - can't see anyone risking a purchase
End of contract 2027
KDH - stays
Faes - stays
end of contract 2028
souttar - stays
VK - stays

I think that leaves us with a healthy defence and a potent attack. Hamza should be back to partner KDH in midfield and hopefully we can offload soumaré and bring in a young attacking midfielder to boost us.

We also have Braybrroke and Maswanhise and Marcal and Alves amongst others in our younger teams who should be fine for this level.

If he doesn’t get snapped up by a prem team I can see Leicester going after Alex Scott. He’s a really good young player and I think it would be a good step in his career to join Leicester.

It would be a good move for him, but he'll be on the bench at a prem team next season.

Our only true pre-season friendly today, against Northampton, thanks to the management completely misjudging last season and agreeing to a Thai tour which almost overlaps with the beginning of the championship season - 2 demonstration games against Spurs and Liverpool which are totally unsuitable for prep and a waste of time and effort.

Looking forward to seeing the start of the Maresca era. I think we'll be playing 3 at the back and passing it around. First chance to see new signings Coady and Winks. It'll be interesting to see which CB doesn't start - Faes, Souttar and new signing Doyle (who may not start but must be likely for the season) and Vestergaard , who surely won't start. CDM is supposed to be Winks which means N'didi and Soumaré are out. 5 Good FBs that'll be fighting for 2 spots. Surely Ricky has the RB slot until injury but then we have VK, Thomas, Castagne and JJ. Pretty sure Castagne will end up going to Italy, simply because we're overloaded and he has value. The rest of the midfield is a little up in the air. KDH should have 1 spot and then it's either one of the aforementioned CDMs Hamza, Praet or Albrighton. we're so obviously missing a creative midfielder that a purchase needs to be imminent. I'd go with Hamza and Praet making up the midfield 4. Leaving 2 spots up front, Barnes looks like he's leaving so that's either Vardy, Nacho or Daka or maybe one of the youngsters like Maswanhise.

I forgot to talk about the GKs, because Ward and Iversen do NOT fit the ideal for Maresca, they cannot play with heir feet. Stolarcyz maybe but he's too inexperienced. I think we'll have a new guy before season starts, possibly Mads from Brondby - hope so anyway.

In reality we need a few more sales, generating money and moving on older guys - Vestergaard, Soumaré, Nacho, Praet, Castagne, Ward, Iversen (possibly Wilf) could all leave and make us more healthy. A new starting GK and AM of a good quality are a must with another decent AM alternative will probably come in too.

Northampton 0 Leicester 1

Easy enough victory against lower level opposition. always difficult to draw too much from these matches apart from fitness and tactics.
9 players played 60 minutes
4 players played 45 minutes
9 players played 30 minutes.

All the game was on the front foot so knowing if we have problems in defnece is especially hard to judge but the defenders and midfield did well going forward, unlike the attackers who did little.

on attack we went to a back 3 with RickyP moving alongside Winks to form a good partnership at hte base of midfield

Jakub Stolarcyzk 6 didn't have to make a save, looked in control, decent with feet but one pass nearly intercepted
RickyP 8 probably our best player on the day. When fit he is a top prem player, problem is he's unlikely to last until christmas
Faes 6.5 looked decent, needs to remember that Ricky is not at RB
Coady 7 barked orders , good passing
Doyle 5 only just arrived, clearly has talent but no time with teammates yet
Winks 7.5 good one touch passing, involved in most things
Castagne 6 RW
KDH 8 scored and looked good all game
Marcal - madvidua 7 like what I saw
Praet 6 some good, some lazy
Vardy 5 good movement, no finish

Iversen 5.5 nothingto do, not as good with his feet
JJ 7 played the Ricky role well
VK 6.5 solid
Vestergaard 6 surprisingly okay
Souttar 7 looked decent
Choudhury 6 did nothing wrong
McAteer 7 worked hard, like what I saw
Albrighton 6 reliable
N'didi 7 played AM and was our best attacker
Daka 4 poor
Nacho 5.5 played deep nothing in box

No Barnes, supposedly carrying a small niggle
No Soumaré thank god
no Maswanhise
Ward on bench didn't play, please sell
Nelson on bench didn't play.

Clearly we still need an AM and like the rumours linking us to the young Italian from Chelsea. Need a GK who is comfortable with feet and good, I like the rumours linking us with Mads Hermannsen. Hope there is some truth to the loan rumours of Palmer from man city.

Final pre-season match - somewhere in a very different time zone - Liverpool 4 Leicester 0.

We started brightly and were the better team for about 20 minutes. Liverpool then nullified Winks, our defenders gave the ball away, Liverpool scored 3 quick goals and ran out easy winners.

Pre-season is not about the score, it's about preparing for the first few matches in the league season. 4-0 doesn't worry me. The lack of a lineup and the terrible preparation for a new manager with a rebuilding team does. The owner should be ashamed of his decision to insist on going "home" to show off "his" football club.

Hermansen - 7 - he got worked far too much thanks to some terrible passing, but he did well (even though he conceded 4). I'm glad we bought him and I'm looking forward to seeing him perform for us this season and for the future.
Ricardo - 7 - he is a class player, switched sides and marked Salah well the first half, tried to be creative.
Doyle - 5.5 - early days, did nothing wrong and got annoyed at some of his teammates poor play, didn't have any highlights either though
Vestergaard - 5 - Made a lot of great blocks but mostly from balls he gave away. I feel bad giving him only 5 when I saw some good things but too many bad things off-set them and cost us.
Castagne - 5 - not up for it. Wants out?
N'didi - 6 - looked a dangerous attacking threat early doors - if only he could shoot on target.
Winks - 6 - essential for the team, started great but got taken out of the game by Liverpool - they are one of the best though.
KDH - 6 - looked good at times but also disappeared at times
Albrighton - 4.5 - he isn't prem standard anymore and today was a prem team.
McAteer - 7.5 - my motm for Leicester. He made some good runs , good passes and worked hard. Certian to make the squad this season.
Daka - 3 - dreadful. What has happened?

Subs
Justin 5.5 - looked like he's on his way back.
Choudhury 5 - only a few minutes but did fine
Marçal - 5 - too short a time
Nacho - 4.5 - not enough time

Interesting to note that Soumaré didn't get on at all. Souttar didn't get on at all. Vardy, Faes, Praet not in the squad, Coady injured.

Good to see that Winks has been playing well in preseason. Hope he kills it for your boys this season, and stays healthy.

I loved what I saw from him online. He came on with only 20 minutes to play and everything he did showed intelligence and capability. I think he'll be a star for us. My hope is that when we get promoted at the end of the year, Chelsea let us buy him (doubtful though).

Leicester City is facing a charge for allegedly breaching of Premier League's profit and sustainability rules in their final season before they were relegated. If guilty, a points deduction would be enforced next season.

It really is quite ridiculous at the speed these 115 charges are moving.

At least there is a date set.
