Biggest club in the world?

Post#1 » by No_20 » Tue Jul 28, 2015 12:21 am

This is an interesting question I was thinking about when I heard Schweinsteiger's comments about Man Utd being a bigger club than Bayern. I know the PR folks asked him to do it, but when you think about it he isnt wrong. Despite the fact that Bayern has won more than Man Utd. National and European trophies.

Who's the biggest? When it comes to titles and glory Real Madrid is the biggest. When it comes to fanbase and global appeal it is Man Utd. When it comes to modern era and mystique about the club it is Barcelona. I dont see Bayern on the same level as these three. Clubs like Milan and Liverpool were there a decade ago but I feel their recent struggles put them out of this discussion.
Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash, Kevin Garnett, Toni Kroos, Pep Guardiola, Ernst Happel, Joachim Löw.

I think most people if asked, would tell you it's Real. Richest club in the world according to most accounts. If, just based on wealth.

Forbes Rich list
1. Real
2. Barcelona
3. Man U
4. Bayern
5. Man City
6. Chelsea
7. Arsenal
8. Liverpool
9. Juventus
10. Milan

considering even at its best united was real's glorified feeder team, i would say real bigger than man u. not that there is a way to quantify this but i would say real still held with highest esteem among players, mainz is close second.

3 way between Barca, Man utd and Real Madrid

right now Madrid might just be the biggest with Barca 2nd and United 3rd

i'd say bayern is getting there but it doesn't help that they are the only team that actually has a hope in the Bundesliga

First of all, my team (FC Porto) is the greatest on this planet. :D

After that i would say,

Real Madrid and Barça in no particular order.
Why ?
Barça and RM players don't force to play for Man United, etc, but United, Bayern, Milan players when Barça or Real are intrested in you, you make a big forcing to go to those clubs.

The only way Man United is bigger is in Fans around the world, maybe.

Liverpool deserves a mencion also.
The most historic english club.

I hate to burst your bubble as a fellow T-Wolf, but...

Yeah, Benfica has more fans, no doubt about that ;)
But in terms of titles and glory, we won like 9 titles in the last 13, 20 or more in the last 30.
+European cups.

It's not like Gladbach won twice as many european cups as a certain turkish team and I've never heard of a city called Berling...

Anyways, I think it's Real with 10 CL titles and Barca thanks to them collecting all those titles during the past decade.

A few years ago I would have said Man U but nowadays I see a lot more Barca fans.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

To be fair, the Eiserne are the easily the coolest club in football. So you can't blame massi for accidentally almost being right. 8-)

its a pity some teams like MIlan , Ajax or Liverpool have gone into a big slump lately ( specially in champions league) because they would/should be part of this convo.

I also miss that leagues have gone so lopsided making it almost imposible for the totenhamms, evertons, Valencias, Bilbaos, Atletico Madrids, Naples, Fiorentinas, Moenchengladbachs, Hamburgs etc of the world to compete with the top dogs and actually win some leagues here and there.

in modern football dynamics, ajax never going to be able to keep its talent together to be successful. that early 90s team where they had almost entire lineup full of elite youth in the team at the same time unlikely to happen again.

milan is fine, they had enough cl success this millennium to keep em satisfied for 30 years and berlusconi is almost 80, he'll croak and everything will be fine.
