USA/Mexico/Canada 2026 World Cup Bid

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Sun Apr 9, 2017 2:51 am

The press conference announcing the United States, Canada and Mexico submitting a proposal to co-host the 2026 World Cup is scheduled for Monday.

That year the field will extend from 32 teams to 48 (a bit of overkill, in my opinion).

What does everyone think of this idea? Japan & South Korea previously co-hosted a World Cup, so it has been done before. That is a lot of real estate to cover for teams, fans & media.

I'm curious to see which cities would be involved. Also, if all three countries would get automatic bids.

There are two sticking points, in my opinion. It'd be ridiculous to award automatic qualification to all three, yet if they don't do that we'd likely not participate at the World Cup we'd be co-hosting. And one nation would get neither the opener nor the final - again, probably us.

This bid will almost certainly win out. And 2030 will go to England.

I see Australia going for it too. In 26 or 30.

Tricky because of the time zone which would be really bad for European and U.S. markets.

We need auto-qualification for co-hosts; otherwise, how else is Canada going to make it? We stink, honestly. I fully support a joint bid for the World Cup.

Me too. With 48 teams, there are more cities involved. At least in Canada, I can assume that Toronto, Montreal and/or Vancouver will be in?

Sincé Mexico, Canada and Usa would be automatically qualified i would only agree to this if comenbol and concacaf merge already ( its absurd they are not 1 confederation).
Basically in order that no more north america teams qualify undeservedly.

and yes 48 is way too much.

specially since in a perfect world that would mean 24 euros all 10 south americans and 13 from the rest of the world +organizer.

any other share will wáter down the competition and since we are not in a perfect world they woudl come up with some stupid 12 for europe 6 for south america 10 for asia 10 for africa and teh rest form north america b.s

would be nice if we didn't constantly get screwed by FIFA. We should have gotten it or the US and then whoever didn't should have gotten 2026.

Now honestly i think its 2030 or bust, and even then i'd say we'd be competing with China who will surely want in. Our best hope may be a joint bid with New Zealand.

i would not repeat any country as the seed until there are no NEW places that can actually hold it and have not hold it

From the top of my head.

Canada ( canada alone)
Colombia
Portugal
Holland
Belgium
Norway
Denmark
Austria
Turkey
Greece
Romania
Morocco
Egypt
Australia
China
Thailand

all those countries have arennas they can use to organise it.

Not 2026 related (well, maybe); but in seeing an active movement to strip Qatar of the 2022 WC.

Anyone else hearing about this?

May be a bit too late now. They're spending something like 655 million a week for this world cup. If they lost it they'd sue like crazy.
