When you are not going to pick up the absolute world class defenders...at least gotta pick up a world class goalie.

I'm fine with others getting the top goalkeepers. There are more than 16 elite goalkeepers in the world, though admittedly only a few world class.

Exactly. I'm more than a little surprised that Neuer didn't go first though.

Not a huge fan of his arrogant attitude. Would not pick him.

Knew Naby Keita wouldn't fall when I picked Forsberg and people were discussing him in the transfer thread :uhoh:

I wanted both, Keita and Forsberg, with my 2 picks here. At least I got one

What are we to make of the contribution of Reus and players like him when we see them in lineups? It seems to me Reus should be picked in Round 2 or 3, or he shouldn't be picked at all.

I think that will depend on the judges themselves but if I was judging, for me it would depend on how many games the player played before he got injured. So for example, if x player played 30+ games the previous season and then got injured, then there would be a big enough sample size to see if he would be a contributor or not in this tournament for his team. If x player only played very few games last season, got injured and is known to be injury prone then I would probably say that, that player would not be able to contribute enough in this tournament for his team. This is just my opinion of course, nothing official. lol

Really had no plans of picking up Reus but since Kompany who played far less was selected I figured might as well. If you guys don't think he's eligible to be drafted then let us know what criteria needs to be met before we start the matches and then we can do a reover on these picks.

At the end of the day, it is the judges who will make the call as to whether they want to ignore the injury history or not in determining who wins each matchup. We'll have them announced after the draft when the group stage begins, but all of them are likely well aware of who did/didn't play a significant portion of the season.

That makes no sense at all. They are supposed to judge the quality of the lineups against each other and only that. We can't leave it up to them to determine on a whim whether Matty just picked up the steal of the draft or a totally useless player who won't be playing football for months.

As far as i know - and please correct me if i'm wrong - Kompany is fit right now. And he played enough at the end of the season to establish a form that we can each judge him by. Reus is not fit. He is carrying a very serious injury.

I would argue that those both go hand in hand. Part of the judges analyzing the quality of the lineups against each other includes knowing who is actually capable of playing in a game right now or stuck on crutches for months, and also making determinations of who was injured during the season but made a return back to their regular form or as a shell of their former selves. It is buyer beware.

I'll let Baph weigh in on this too, but if it is up to the two of us as moderators to make the call, then I would say no to drafting someone with a significant injury right now or who played fewer than 20 games this season. I believe we've had the same thing happen in previous years and have done the same thing.
